- Over the last twelve years, the University has responded to national educational policy changes, to demographic shifts, to a radically different economy and marketplace requirements, to emerging local and regional needs, and to new technologies. All of these changes have led, in turn, to new expectations on the part of students, staff, and administrators. The University equips individuals with skills needed for significant contributions to society. This work is currently done through eleven faculties that provide a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs. The results reached in many programs involving international collaboration - particularly in mobility programs like Socrates, PHARE, Leonardo de Vinci, etc.—are impressive and are among the University's best achievements. The overall impression we received of WUT is that of a very creative, energetic, active, and innovative University. All staff members, both teaching and research, are very enthusiastic and determined to experiment with all the new opportunities and modalities offered by I.T. Furthermore, use multimedia tools were available in most classrooms in the new buildings ( e.g., those of Economic Sciences and Law). Our University has consistently performed its founders' role, endowed it as the primary knowledge center of western Romania. In a world of mobilities where distances have been enormously compressed as a result of the development of fast means of transport and new communication media, WUT stands out on the global educational market as a regional leader open to the international academic community, both from the perspective of scientific research and study programs. Today WUT offers an effervescent intellectual environment which stimulates individual achievements, teamwork, and interdisciplinarity both to those who want to provide knowledge, innovate or perform in the field of research and artistic creativity and to those who are looking forward to joining our bachelor's, master's, doctoral or postdoctoral programs. The WUT charter, advanced scientific research, and education are the components of our University's mission. The WUT Foundation was created in December 2012 as real active support for educational, research, and social responsibility WUT projects. The foundation's primary purpose is "to promote the values of culture, science, and civilization by creating a public-private partnership involving the WUT alumni, cultural and scientific personalities, and national and foreign social and economic area representatives." In 2013 the foundation intended to carry on several activities with a beneficial impact on the WUT community: To begin activities occasioned by the 70th anniversary of WUT. (the "WUT 70" event) To organize congresses, conferences, workshops, and summer schools. To support the research programs of young WUT academics. To provide financial and logistic support for students to organize specific social, cultural, scientific, sports, and artistic events. To support specific revitalizing projects targeting strategic WUT academic areas by funding specific activities. To finance social and entertainment activities for WUT employees (access to swimming pools, theatre and opera tickets, etc.) Other necessary legal activities to attain the foundation's goal: "to promote the values of culture, science, and civilization."
- Established in 1920, shortly after the union of Romanian territories, in a European context marked by the redefinition of states and by the aftermath of World War I, the Polytechnic School in Timisoara - as was initially called - was the answer to one of the requirements of the Romanian society of the time, namely the formation of engineers. Politehnica University Timisoara, a university of advanced research and education, is today one of the traditional Romanian schools and is recognized nationally and internationally through generations of teachers and the outstanding work of prestigious academics. According to tradition, the Politehnica University of Timisoara's mission resides in meeting the competence requirements of the societal environment by providing superior training at undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels. Bearing fundamental values, the university mission reflects at the same time concern for the future of society by tracing its development at local, regional, national, and international levels. The structure of the Politehnica University of Timisoara includes faculties, departments, chairs, institutes and research centers, laboratories, libraries, hostels, canteens, sports facilities, technical and administrative services, a publishing house and a printing center, and a student medical center. The ten faculties of the university provide education programs to approximately 13,500 students. Within the 25 departments of the university work, nearly 700 teachers and the auxiliary and administrative personnel amount to 500 staff. The Politehnica University of Timisoara is recognized as an outstanding actor on the research stage nationally and internationally. The existence and operation of an essential number of research centers (25), in which research teams successfully put into practice the institution's research strategy, offer the university its international prestige and, at the same time, provide funding sources for its development. The materialization of the research results in scientific papers, patents, or products constitutes a guarantee of institutional competence, thoroughness, and professionalism. The didactic activity of the Politehnica University of Timisoara is organized in line with the Bologna paradigm. The study programs correspond to three cycles, BACHELOR, MASTER, and DOCTORAL STUDIES. Interested in responding to the labor market demands and the need for long-life training and development required by the complex challenges of the modern society, Politehnica University of Timisoara organizes POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMS, whose main objective is to update/develop/improve numerous academic qualifications. The portfolio of specializations offered by the Politehnica University Timisoara meets contemporary society's needs, reflecting the close relationship the university holds with the socio-economic environment. The specializations are continually adapted to the latest trends in the field and meet the theoretical and practical training requirements needed by graduates in the labor market. Politehnica University Timisoara has an infrastructure that ensures the best conditions for teaching and research. The excellent spaces and equipment which the university offers are a consequence of the last decade's modernization and investing concerns. Entirely consistent with its mission with the desire to assert itself internationally, Politehnica University of Timisoara is currently developing fruitful collaboration with many universities in Europe, USA, Canada, South America, and Asia, resulting in over 190 cooperation agreements concluded directly or under the European Union programs. The university's campus includes 16 student hostels offering approximately 6500 beds, a student cafeteria, a student medical center, and two modern sports centers.
