- At Plas-y-Felin Primary School we strive to enable every child to achieve their potential. We try to enthuse staff, pupils, and parents with heightened aspirations in a caring, supportive and safe environment. The school has two buildings, consisting of the Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2 phases. The Foundation Phase department building surrounds an open, padded patio area and consists of 4 large teaching areas and a large hall that is shared by the whole school. The organization of these areas reflects the learning needs of the different age groups taught. We refer to these teaching areas Nursery/Reception/Year 1/Year 2 Bases, as well as outdoor areas for each classroom. Also, we have an external classroom and a Community Room. The Key Stage 2 department building has a large hall shared by the whole school. Off the hall are 3 wings that house Year 3 (7-8-year-old - Gwindy), Year 4 (8-9-year-old - Pandy), Year 5, and Year 6 (9-11-year-old - Celyn). Additionally, there is a Nurture Room and an ICT Suite housing a variety of equipment to allow learners to become more digitally competent. It's been a good year once again for Eco concerns at Plas-y-Felin. We have been maintaining our Eco standards throughout the day by making sure we turn off anything that doesn't need to be on, saving water by turning off taps, and keeping the school tidy. We have been learning about Eco issues in our class topics and making sure that we continue to be Eco friendly in all that we do. We now have an adventure playground for the infant department. This was to help promote our Healthy School status through active play. We have lots of bicycles and pedal power helping our children to exercise and enjoy the outdoor areas. The members of the Gardening Group in the juniors have worked very hard to get the area ready for the play equipment, transporting lots of bark and making sure that everything was level and set for the infants to use. The Gardening Group has also planted many trees around the school, partly as a celebration of the Jubilee but also to help add to the forest area and the wonderful trees that we already have around the school.
