University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) is Malaysia's 17th public institution of higher learning. The Malaysian Cabinet approved it in May 2001. Originally known as Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraa Utara Malaysia (KUKUM), or Northern Malaysia University College of Engineering, it was renamed University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). The first intake consisted of 116 engineering students who started classes. Currently, UniMAP has approximately 13,488 students and a workforce of more than 2,193 academic and non-academic staff members. UniMAP graduates are nurtured to become competent practitioners in their area of specialization and have the confidence to explore entrepreneurial possibilities upon graduation. Most of the engineering programs at UniMAP have an electronic-based focus. However, both basic and applied studies on other fields of engineering and technology that support engineering advancement are also actively pursued here. Also, International Business, Engineering Entrepreneurship, and an MBA in Engineering Management are on offer. The International Business program is designed to produce global-business leaders who could function and compete effectively in the globalized market place. The Engineering Entrepreneurship program aims to equip today's generation of 'technopreneurs' with excellent entrepreneurial knowledge in managing industrial and technology-based businesses. Simultaneously, the MBA in Engineering Management is designed to produce competent managers for the engineering technology sectors. Our Mission is to produce a holistic human that contributes to the nation's development and industrial competitiveness agenda. Our Vision is to become an internationally competitive academic and research institution. Our School of Computer and Communication Engineering (SCCE or PPKKP) offers Philosophical Doctorate, Master's and Undergraduate Bachelor's Degree programs in Computer Engineering, Communication Engineering, Computer Network Engineering, and Diploma in Computer Engineering. The programs provide students with their future careers in the following industries: electronic and electrical and IT industries, academia, and government by providing unique environments and facilities for teaching, learning, and research. The students are also exposed to industrial training for industrial exposure through direct involvement with the related industrial sector and providing opportunities to companies to provide 'necessary industrial exposer' for the students. The student can show their potential, and hopefully, the host company will be interested in employing them once they completed their study. Our School of Microelectronic Engineering (SoME), the first school built in UniMAP, is a comprehensive institution, offering formative undergraduate degrees with research and design elements. Our undergraduate programs provide the opportunity to study and develop an intensive, high-quality program at the cutting edge of technology. Our undergraduate degrees are offered based on demands from the industry and fulfilled the requirement of professional bodies. In SoME, creating the environment in which the forefront teaching and learning process can flourish and highly demanded expertise can be produced is always our top priority.
