- At our school, we aim to provide our children with the best possible education and to develop the whole child by preparing and equipping them for the challenging and fast-changing world in which we live, during their time with us. Our approach to learning and teaching is based on the work of Carol Dweck, “Mindsets”. We encourage our pupils and staff to be lifelong learners and to believe that they can achieve anything they put their mind and effort into, hence our motto ‘Reach for the Stars. At Osmani, we offer our pupils and staff the opportunity to be creative, innovative, and adventurous in their approach to learning and teaching, using approaches and strategies that value effort, perseverance, cooperation, collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership skills within an inclusive, happy and stimulating learning environment. We also believe that a close and trusting relationship between home and school, working together at all times to promote the aims and ethos of the school is important to the success of our pupils and the school. Our vision is to develop an inclusive school, which promotes and achieves excellence and continues to nurture the values, confidence, and skills of pupils, staff, and the community, to meet the emerging opportunities of the 21st century. The school has previously taught the National Curriculum in discrete subjects, using the QCA scheme of work units for most of the subject areas. English and Maths have been taught in line with National Strategies. The guidance issued by the DfE with the updated National Curriculum, due to come into force in September 2014 has emphasized the opportunities for schools to develop their approaches to the school curriculum, and how it is organized and taught. There is evidence that teaching subject knowledge and skills as part of a wider topic-based curriculum allows pupils to make useful links between areas of learning, and consolidate skills. Children are also likely to be more engaged in their learning if it has a context and theme that runs through it. Osmani Primary School has therefore developed a new thematic curriculum to deliver the National Curriculum 2014 and other aspects of the school curriculum, including PHSE, Religious Education, and Citizenship. Osmani is an inclusive school and may offer the following range of provisions to support children with communication and interaction, cognition and learning difficulties, learning difficulties, social, behavioral, and emotional health difficulties, sensory difficulties, and physical needs. The range of support deployed will be tailored to individual needs following thorough assessment by internal or external agencies.
