Northway School is a special school in the London Borough of Barnet catering for over 110 students with a range of learning difficulties, particularly on the Autism spectrum. Northway is a small school, where all staff knows every student by name. All staff teams support each other to maximize learning outcomes for all students. Northway has a modern purpose-built facility and playgrounds equipped for physical exploration and interactive play. With our amazing students, knowledgeable, experienced, and dedicated staff and governing body, comprehensive therapeutic support programs, extensive modern resources, and a supportive community network, it is little wonder that Northway was deemed an outstanding school by Ofsted in its latest inspection. We are a positive and inclusive learning community in which all are valued and respected. We are passionate about developing self-confidence for all members of the school community. We work together, in a safe and stimulating environment to enable everyone to experience and celebrate success, develop independence, and prepare for the future. At Northway, we are passionate about helping our local community and the wider world. We develop the pupil's understanding of the world around them and how they are part of a community by actively engaging in projects to help others. Northway School annually takes part in the 'Me to We initiative. We aim to have a curriculum that, although based around the National Curriculum and the Foundation Stage Curriculum, effectively meets the individual learning needs of the diverse range of children who attend the school. We support the children in becoming as effective learners as possible thus ensuring they each achieve and attain their full personal potential. We aim to have a curriculum that furnishes the children with the skills and the strength to manage changes and transitions in their lives. We hold an annual food drive to collect items for our local homeless shelter, Homeless Action in Barnet. Classes collect food and household items, we bring them all together in a special assembly and then a class delivers them to the homeless shelter. We regularly take part in national fundraising days for different charities such as Children in Need, Sports Relief, and Macmillan Coffee Mornings. Our pupils have sold tea & coffee, dressed up as animals, come to school in pajamas, and taken part in triathlons to help to raise money to help those less fortunate. We have held a variety of fundraising days, from sponsored carwashes to cake sales, to raise money to help people in the developing world. It is a happy and successful school, with a team of talented, hard-working, and committed staff who are dedicated to doing the very best for your child. We are equally proud of the wonderful young people in our school who impress us daily with their talent, involvement, and commitment. The children are the key to the success of any school and we are delighted that our pupils are so well behaved, interested and motivated. They contribute greatly to school and bring it to life with their positive attitudes and enthusiasm. The children and their learning are at the heart of everything we do. We take great delight and pride in seeing and sharing in the growth and development of our pupils into Northway Learners- well-rounded individuals ready for the next steps in their learning journey. High expectations, challenges, and support delivered through a relevant and varied school curriculum supplemented by the many extra-curricular activities available are crucial to this. We are proud recipients of the National Healthy Schools Award, Active Mark awarded by Sports England, Basic Skills Quality Mark, the Sing Up and Eco-Schools awards. These national acknowledgments highlight the excellent impact the hard work and commitment of pupils, parents, staff has had on standards in these areas within our curriculum and extra-curriculum provision. The Northway Code continues to be central to life at Northway promoting a consistent approach towards behavior and our attitudes towards one another. It applies equally to all members of the school community before, after, and during the school day, at Breakfast and After School Clubs, activities, and school trips.
