      1. Nishogakusha University has its roots in the School of Sinology, Nishogakusha, and was established in 1877 by Chushu Mishima, a scholar of Chinese classics and a significant figure in the legal profession during the Meiji era. A great novelist in the Meiji era, Natsume Soseki was also a student in the School of Sinology. The school philosophy of Chushu Mishima was to cultivate invaluable human resources for society, which has been handed down through the years. Last year, Nishogakusha University celebrated its 140th year, making it one of Japan's oldest universities. Over its long history, the university has produced many scholars and calligraphers in Chinese and Japanese literature and sent many Japanese language teachers to junior high schools and high schools across the nation. At present, Nishogakusha University comprises two disciplinary faculties, the Faculty of Literature and the Faculty of International Politics and Economics, with nearly 3,000 students at the Kudan Campus in Tokyo's heart. To meet the changing needs of students and society, both faculties offer a solid curriculum where students can study in their chosen field of expertise and any peripheral domains. Additionally, in April 2017, the Department of Urban Culture Design in the Faculty of Literature was established. In April 2018, the Department of International Business in the Faculty of International Politics and Economics will be established. The university's traditions, history, and cutting-edge curriculum allow students to take advantage of the fulfilling academic environment and learn spontaneously. The long-term vision "N'2020 Plan" was announced at the Nishogakusha 135th Anniversary Commemorative Ceremony on October 10th, 2012. The plan's purpose is to designate the 135th anniversary as a new start, proposing "how the university should be in 2020" concerning various reforms in education and management. Such reforms were thought necessary for the university's continuation and cope with large changes in the landscape within and surrounding the university, such as an increasingly aging society, globalization, and rapid information development.
