- Newport was built in 1883 as an Infant and Junior school and was amalgamated in 2004 into a full primary school. The school is located over three sites the main school site (Reception to Year 6) and a Nursery and Nature reserve which are a short distance from the main school building. In 2011 Newport School increased in size and was converted into a 4 form entry school. The school serves diverse population pupils come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds of which a large majority, are of Asian British/Pakistani heritage. The pupils, parents, and staff work very well together to make the school a positive and happy place to be. Children tell us that they love coming to school. Since September 2009 the school has been on a journey of rapid improvement, moving from Special Measures to an Ofsted judgment of Outstanding, awarded in June 2013. We are dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyle choices so that our pupils develop physically, emotionally, and morally. We are determined that our pupils will be successful and will leave us as confident, highly educated members of the community. We do this by: Raising achievement through quality first teaching enthuses and motivates aspiring all to fulfill their potential. Ensuring pupil's voice is at the heart of all we do to enable children to become confident, resilient, and reflective independent learners. Offering a broad and varied curriculum that ensures all children can read, write, and are numerate. Having an open and welcoming environment where everyone feels welcome and included. We are a founding member of the Virtual Library of Virginia and offer students access to collections on a significant research university level. Local university collections are also available through the Virginia Tidewater Consortium. Here, students explore and address the pressing questions facing humanity and contribute to creating new knowledge. Through the close mentorship of professors, undergraduate research fosters independent learning and complements coursework in meaningful ways. Students learn valuable skills that lead to success after graduation. Opportunities abound for students in every discipline and result in insightful and creative papers, compelling experiments, artwork, and performances. Student work has led to publication in notable journals, presentations at conferences both here and abroad, and performances across the country. Each semester you participate in the President's Leadership Program, live on campus, and meet the GPA requirements, you will receive a minimum $500 residential scholarship. The Office of Counseling Services (OCS) provides a range of services to address the student body and its mental health needs.
