  1. Mentari Intercultural School Bintaro (MISB, formerly MSB) was established in June 2004 by the Yayasan Perkembangan Anak Indonesia. Through MISB, The Yayasan strives to provide education that will give students the academic preparation needed for higher learning. Likewise, MISB equips students with the skills and attitudes needed to be responsible and socially conscious members of society. Mentari Intercultural School aims to develop well-rounded students with a passion for learning who will be future leaders of the country. We are committed to enhancing their intellectual, physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and artistic growth so that they may realize their power for good as leaders and citizens of local and world communities. We expect our students to be: Morally Upright Engaging Communicators Never Too Busy to Lend a Helping Hand Tech Savvy Able Leaders Responsible Citizens Innovators and Problem Solvers. Through its committed and professional staff, Mentari continues its journey, fulfilling its commitment as a college preparatory school to all students from all nationalities. Truly, here in Mentari, we teach… we care… we inspire. Mentari Intercultural School was founded by the Yayasan Perkembangan Anak Indonesia made up of five women, namely: Ibu Afi Shamara, Ibu Clarissa Subagyo, Ibu Isolde Michelle van der Rest, Ibu Linda Wijaya and Ibu Rozella Sutadisastra. The ladies come from different ethnic backgrounds (Dutch, Chinese, Indonesian, Filipino) and different disciplines (graphic design, speech and language pathology, Montessori education, preschool education, ESL teaching, clinical counseling, business). While different, the ladies share a common goal and that is to establish a school that recognizes the uniqueness of each child, responds to the students’ needs, and provides an environment that makes learning enjoyable. Being mothers themselves they wanted to establish a school that would recognize multiple intelligences in children that not only children who are good in language arts, science, and mathematics should be appreciated but that all children have their unique gift and should be appreciated for their gift. In their desire to be involved in the creation of such a school, the ladies were actively involved in their first school, the Sunshine Preschool. Starting with 7 students, the ladies were the school’s first teachers. They multi-tasked as teachers, office staff, school administrators, researchers, and nannies. Those not actively involved in the school constantly updated the group on the latest trends and best practices in education. As a group they enjoyed preparing lessons, making learning materials, reading, playing, and cooking with the students. Those were memorable days for the ladies. When it was time to establish the elementary school the ladies believed that the school should prepare the students to become future leaders, educate morally upright individuals, good communicators, deeply rooted in the country’s culture and heritage with a compassionate heart. To date, the school has grown and the founders feel blessed with the administrators and teachers who have taken over the task of carrying out their mission and vision and providing education that Leo Buscaglia describes as an “education that makes students discover their uniqueness, teach them to develop it and show them how to give and share it with others”.
