Mason is a young university that has made impressive strides in size, stature, and influence in just a short time. Today, as Virginia's largest public research university, we are setting the benchmark for a bold, progressive education that serves our students and communities' needs. To that end, we have ten schools and colleges devoted to a variety of areas of study. For whom our university is named, George Mason was one of the greatest of the founding fathers of the United States. Mason drafted the Virginia Declaration of Rights, a model for the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution, known as the Bill of Rights. Mason is committed to creating a more just, free, and prosperous world. Located in one of the most important political, economic, and intellectual hubs globally, we accept our responsibility to serve others: to help our students succeed, enrich the lives of our community, and contribute to solving some of the most complex global problems of our time. We are a progressive, diverse university and our leadership reflects that. We come from many different backgrounds, many different places, and bring something different to the table. These very contrasts allow us to look beyond the expected as we share the responsibility and commitment to ensure the success of our students in their academic goals, personal lives, careers, communities, and whatever other endeavors they may choose to pursue. Mason has three campuses in Fairfax, Arlington, and Prince William Counties in Virginia and an international campus in Songdo, Korea. Besides, Mason operates a site in Loudoun County and has partnered with the Smithsonian Institution to offer a global conservation studies program at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, Virginia. The Fairfax Campus consists of 677 wooded acres and is the principal center for undergraduate residence and life. The on-campus population is currently more than 6,000 and is expected to grow to 7,000 as new residential units are constructed. Our Fairfax Campus is also home to the Center for the Arts and the EagleBank Arena, where numerous sporting and entertainment events occur year-round. Our most urban campus is in Arlington. It consists of three main buildings and is where the Antonin Scalia Law School, the Schar School of Policy and Government, and the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution are located. Most of the programs offered are at the graduate and professional levels. Serving all of Northern Virginia, the George Mason University Science and Technology Campus in Prince William County primarily focuses on research and academic programs in the life sciences, including bioscience, biotechnology, and bioinformatics. The campus features a state-of-the-art Biomedical Research Laboratory and the recently launched Institute for Advanced Biomedical Research. This multidisciplinary facility will pursue some of the most challenging medical questions facing society. Diversity is one of our core values. Everyone is welcome here.
