      1. Marmion Academy, a Catholic-Benedictine college preparatory high school for young men, is a community dedicated to spiritual formation, academic excellence, and leadership development. Marmion offers students a unique leadership track in addition to their college-prep curriculum. The Academy is owned and operated by Marmion Abbey. The Abbey and Academy occupy a 325-acre campus in the western Chicago suburb of Aurora, Illinois, 35 miles from downtown Chicago, one mile north of Interstate 88, and easily accessible from O’Hare International Airport and Midway Airport. Founded in 1933, Marmion is conducted by the Benedictine Priests and Brothers of Marmion Abbey and is situated on a scenic 325-acre campus in Aurora, Illinois. To accomplish its mission, Marmion strives to build a community of skilled and dedicated educators and talented and receptive students. Parents, teachers, support staff, alumni, and students work together to foster respect for each person and to develop God-given talents. Marmion admits students of any race, color, creed, national origin, or ancestry. It does not discriminate against any student in its educational policies, scholarships, or programs. Marmion reflects the American Constitution in its conviction that all people are created equal and should be treated as equals. Marmion Academy's diverse and richly interested student body is engaged in as many activities as there are students. A remarkable percentage of Marmion Cadets maintain excellent grades while participating in sports and several clubs and teams across the three seasons for Athletics. Spirituality and Campus Ministry is a central theme for every student's involvement, from daily Mass and prayer to annual mission trips and retreats. Marmion offers a variety of opportunities for students to participate in the Fine & Performing Arts and music, including musical theatre, 2 bands, and a chorus. At the heart of any successful learning community are a true commitment to and belief in the school vision and core values by all members. This is accomplished by creating a positive learning environment where all members of the learning community have a personal stake in working towards the same goals. Research also indicates that high expectations, positive incentives, and providing a safe and fun environment promote academic, social, and emotional success. One of the new programs that have been implemented to further Marmion Academy’s goal as a successful learning community is the P.R.I.D.E Program. This program is a collaborative, deliberate effort to encourage students to understand, care about, and act upon core values identified by the Academy. Its purpose is to create a fun, caring, and inclusive learning environment for every student while maximizing student academic potential. It teaches values that will help students be successful both in and out of the classroom. The program encourages pride and respect for self, others, and the school community. It also teaches respect for diversity and builds self-esteem. We are extremely excited about our One-to-One Student Technology Program. Marmion has undergone significant technology infrastructure changes over the past few years. Our faculty members continually train on discipline-specific eLearning tools and student iPad classroom management. All students are issued an iPad that is required for classroom use and educational purposes. In addition, but not as a replacement to Marmion-issued iPads, students are allowed to bring their computers. However, the final decision to use them in class is left to each instructor. For example, some computational science courses require running simulations or code compilers while textbooks are read on the iPad. This type of computer use may not apply to reading an eBook/iBook, etc. and so, the final decision belongs to the instructor. Therefore, all students will be required to have an iPad as their eLearning resource for the class. View full school
