Comprising four colleges - Business, Education, Liberal Arts, and Sciences, and Visual and Performing Arts - the Kutztown University of Pennsylvania offers a wide range of outstanding academic programs to prepare individuals for successful careers. Located on 289 acres, the campus is adjacent to the Borough of Kutztown in Berks County, Pennsylvania. As of Fall 2016, enrollment at the university includes approximately 8,500 students from 29 states and 33 nations. About 44 percent of the undergraduates live in residence halls. The rest live at home or in nearby apartments. A well-rounded program of athletic, cultural, and social events and activities satisfies nearly every taste. Ninety-three percent of our tenured/tenure track faculty have doctorates or terminal degrees. Kutztown boasts a favorable 18:1 student: faculty ratio. Kutztown University was founded in 1866 as Keystone Normal School. The school became Kutztown State Teachers College in 1928, Kutztown State College in 1960, and achieved university status in 1983. Kutztown University is a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The Board of Governors oversees the State System, which includes Pennsylvania's 14 public universities. The Council of Trustees is the local governing body for Kutztown University. The Officers of Administration for the university are the president and members of the president's cabinet. Kutztown University's mission is to provide high-quality education at the undergraduate and graduate levels to prepare students to meet the lifelong intellectual, ethical, social, and career challenges. Kutztown University aspires to be a regional center of excellence, providing opportunities for advanced academic, cultural, and public service experiences within a caring community designed to promote success in a global society.
