For high school boys, The Kiski School is a life-changing experience. Kiski's 130-year heritage has been marked by continually improving on our ability to ensure every boy thrives. Today, we offer a traditional college preparatory curriculum, enhanced by diverse offerings in the arts and a robust STEAM program. Small classes allow our teachers, almost all of whom live on campus, to model the habits we expect our students to learn and practice: honesty, civility, tenacity, and open-mindedness. Our teachers are experts in the education of boys. They understand their unique learning needs; they know how to reach and teach young men, and, most importantly, they love what they do. Moreover, our faculty is committed to helping our students develop what many have termed 21st-century skills - the proficiencies they will need to survive and thrive in college and beyond. The mission of The Kiski School is to prepare young men to succeed in college and life. Our statement of beliefs: We believe in an environment of living and learning based on best practices for teaching boys, where each boy is challenged to reach his full potential, and his unique qualities are cherished. We believe in a community that nurtures success in two ways: the cultivation of academic excellence and developing a boy's character, integrity, civility, and citizenship. We believe in a dynamic educational environment that fosters formal and informal learning through stimulating programs in academics, athletics, the arts, extracurriculars, and service to the community. We believe in helping boys develop life-long habits of personal and social responsibility through active participation in a wide range of rich and rewarding leadership opportunities. We believe in an academic program that ignites a passion for learning and inspires creative thinking, collaboration, critical analysis, and self-discipline. We believe in the transformational power of teachers who are well-equipped to support the learning of boys in classrooms where rigorous traditional instruction and new innovative methods are carefully balanced. We believe in a residential living program built upon the essential themes of community, brotherhood, healthy choices, and an awareness of the needs of others. Years of educational and psychological research have proven that boys share some essential characteristics. The Kiski School nurtures these vigorous qualities of curiosity, creativity, and confidence – which are too often stifled when forced to compete with the self-doubt that social pressures tend to create. At the same time, we never assume that all boys are the same. We celebrate the uniqueness of our students. Our curriculum offers choices to satisfy various interests, and our faculty members provide dynamic, engaging classrooms and personalize one-on-one tutoring in the evenings to accommodate different learning styles. While our focus is on the liberal arts and sciences – the same curriculum found at the nation's best universities, our boy-centric approach creates an ideal environment for boys to excel. Small classes, hands-on projects, sports, dorm living, and community activities all offer students opportunities to learn and develop essential skills to succeed in college, work, and life. It's no wonder that every year exceptional colleges invite Kiski boys to join their ranks, and alumni report feeling better prepared due to their Kiski years. Our mission is to prepare boys for college and life. We do this through rigorous academics, leadership skill building, a project-based, boy-centric curriculum, and the boarding process itself. As a boarding student, boys learn time management, independence, and how to live with a roommate. Kiski boys live, learn, and compete together. This experience builds a bond and brotherhood with fellow Kiski boys that truly lasts a lifetime. With small classes – usually eight to ten students – Kiski boys experience a lively, interactive, personal education. Your questions are answered. Your curiosity is sparked. Your talents are recognized and developed. And in those cases, when you have more questions, your teacher is available. Teachers live on campus, and they're ready to help. At Kiski, every boy is involved in sports. And just about everything you learn on the field is something you can use in the classroom. We try. We win. Sometimes, we lose.
