From its establishment on October 1, 1978, to the current day, Joetsu University of Education has worked tirelessly to fulfill its social responsibility—its mission—to train school educators with a rich sense of practical leadership, reeducate current educators and conduct varied and high-level research related to education. The University has a history of fewer than 40 years, which is certainly not long, yet we have been recognized for leaving our mark in the educational world. The Joetsu University of Education is dedicating its energies to the cultivation of educators who possess a sense of vocation, a love for their fellow humans, and a creative spirit. In 2008, in addition to existing Master's courses, our Graduate School of Education (Professional Degree Program) was established. We are working on new initiatives for the cultivation of educators at the graduate school level. We are receiving widespread cooperation from the boards of education of Niigata Prefecture, Niigata City, Joetsu City, and other prefectures for these initiatives. We are doing our utmost to be a practical model for the cultivation of educators for our nation. Furthermore, we are working hard to promote varied and cutting-edge research related to education. In particular, by promoting advanced academic research while working toward integrating theory research and practical research, we are making an effort to deal with issues in the educational field. The mainstay of the University's mission is contributing to society. Initiatives involve various educational activities for the community's children and societal contributions as an education and research institution. We report our activities and results both within Japan and overseas. Furthermore, along with collaborative agreements with regional government and relevant organizations, we are proactive in arranging collaborations and exchanges with higher education institutions overseas to enhance and develop teachers' education from an international perspective. The Joetsu University of Education is tireless in its high aspirations for the cultivation of educators, and the entire University will work together for the further enhancement of our education and research, and societal contributions. I sincerely hope that students who enroll with aspirations to be educators and current teachers wishing to acquire high-level skills will study at this University and cultivate a superior set of practical skills. The Joetsu University of Education, fully recognizing the universal role of universities to contribute to developing the welfare, culture, and knowledge of humanity, establishes the Mission Statement to make further progress as a university undertaking teacher education re-education. At the same time, develop our state-of-the-art research in education. The Joetsu University of Education aims to foster teachers as educators with "creativity," a "sense of mission," and a "love for mankind." The Joetsu University of Education, located here in an educational community blessed with wealthy nature, history, and culture, with a deep understanding and love of education, seeks to achieve teacher education rooted in the local community. Educational Objectives: We will encourage our students to be teachers with excellent educational skills who understand educational philosophy, methods, human growth, and development. We will respect our students' individuality and provide care instructions on educational research according to their personalities. We will make efforts to provide opportunities for both our teachers and our students, hoping to be teachers to learn together and enhance their practical teaching capabilities. Research Objectives: In the various institutional pedagogy disciplines, aiming at integrating theoretical and practical research, we will promote state-of-the-art interdisciplinary research. Recognizing the issues in practical situations, we will promote research based on real educational scenarios. Contribution to Society: Utilizing the local community's excellent environment, we will disseminate information on the outcomes of our educational research within the country and to Asia and other parts of the world. As the center of academic culture, we will return the fruits of our educational research to society while creating opportunities for the local community to learn from each other. We will contribute to the enrichment and development of global teacher education through partnerships with higher education institutions abroad. The University's Administrative Foundations: We provide a safe and pleasant environment for all university members in which they can fully demonstrate their personalities and capacities in their activities while respecting each others' identities.
