St. Joachim's Catholic Primary school is situated in the heart of the Docklands. It is in the center of the old established community of Custom House. It is very much a multi-cultural area. The school dates from 1896, though the present building was opened as recently as 1968. Our location makes us very conscious of the diverse backgrounds where our children come from. What we are making us work hard to provide the best possible all-around education for each one of the children in our care. The school is here for the children and we are proud that our efforts have been recognized by a large number of award-giving and inspection agencies. Our whole school community, children, parents, staff, and governors are rightfully proud of our school and its achievements. Our success is both evident in the academic standards achieved and in the excellent curriculum we offer to our children. We work hard to provide a caring and stimulating environment in which each child can thrive and develop their interests and talents. At St Joachim's, we follow the example of Jesus knowing that we are equally loved and accepted. St. Joachim works hard to ensure all children reach their full academic, social and spiritual potential through engaging teaching and a stimulating curriculum. As part of this, there is an expectation of high standards of behavior and respect from all members of our school community. We strongly promote Catholic values of love, care, and self-giving. Children’s achievements are celebrated in our weekly assemblies where certificates are given to those who have strived to do their best. We also have an annual Awards Evening where effort and achievement are celebrated by the pupils, staff, governors, and parents. As part of our rewards system, the children can also earn house points for the House they belong to. To motivate the children to earn their points, a special house party is organized for the team with the most wins at the end of every term. Promote Christian values with an emphasis on encouraging our children to be considerate and helpful to others. At St Joachim's educational visits are a very essential and important part of the children's learning experience. All children from Nursery to year 6 go on educational visits which are linked to their learning and the curriculum. These visits can range from local to international and some are residential. If your child has any difficulties in accessing the curriculum, we will work with you, as a parent or carer, to identify these difficulties and then find ways of providing appropriate support in line with the National Special Needs Code of Practice. In line with our ethos as a Catholic school, we celebrate the social, cultural, and linguistic diversity of our school and the local community. Our children are guided to an appreciation of, and respect for, each individual’s contribution to the life of school and community.
