Our vision is clear. We intend to support and challenge every one of our pupils to achieve, and regularly surpass their potential and we fully subscribe to our tagline: Belong Believe Achieve. We have a brand new, multimillion-pound, state-of-the-art building that will help us to fully realize our ambitions but everyone at Islwyn realizes that a school is much more than its building. It’s about creating a safe and healthy learning environment that has the right ethos to provide the best care, support, and guidance for everyone. Islwyn High School is a brand new school located in Oakdale in the postal area of Blackwood in Gwent. The school opened in September 2016 as a result of an amalgamation of the former Pontllanfraith and Oakdale Comprehensive Schools and pupils and staff transferred to our brand new, purpose-built, 21st Century building in July 2017. The school presently accommodates 1180 pupils which include 50 complex needs pupils from across the county. Partner primary schools include Bryn, Cwmfelinfach, Penllwyn, Pontllanfraith, Rhiw Syr Dafydd, Trinant, and Ynysddu. The school is truly a community school with close working links with all stakeholders, including parents, partner primary schools, local employers, and all other people living in the local area. Staff and Governors have worked hard to engage with all interested parties at all stages of the new school’s development. Islwyn High School is a Caerphilly Local Authority school and its performance, in terms of educational standards is monitored, supported, and challenged by the Education Achievement Service (EAS). Islwyn High School is a school where happy and healthy pupils are prepared by old-fashioned standards and challenged through innovative teaching and learning experiences to create confident independent learners who will thrive in an ever-changing world. Islwyn High School is a happy and healthy school, where our efforts focus solely on making pupils feel safe and ready to embrace the whole school experience. It is a school run on the principle of coupling innovative teaching with traditional standards of behavior and commitment to achievement. We develop a range of learning and personal skills in our pupils which enables them to think independently and enjoy learning. We use the best of modern technology to underpin learning and aim to create a true learning-centered ethos that strives to nurture all pupils’ talents, whatever they may be. We are at the heart of the local community and the center of Caerphilly's education system, helping meet the distinct needs of learners with the support of all our stakeholders, especially parents. Our school is dynamic and forward-looking but is an environment that also remembers to enjoy the experience of today. We aim to be a school with excellent features as recognized locally and nationally. We value good manners, respect, and honesty and believe in the positive character that ALL people possess.
