- St Illtyd Primary School and Nursery Unit provide non-denominational education for children from three to eleven years. It is situated on spacious grounds in the heart of Llantwit Major. The school itself has modern buildings carefully resourced to meet the needs of Primary Education. At St Illtyd we want to ensure your child not only has the best academic education but also develops physically and emotionally to give them the best start in life. We offer a rich, broadly balanced curriculum that will support your child from Nursery through to Year 6. We want to make lessons fun, purposeful, and challenging enough to make learning interesting. We, therefore, work hard to promote a sense of belonging and to enable the children to be proud of their achievements. Our Aims: We aim to create a fun environment where a high standard of learning takes place encouraging independence. We aim to provide a wide range of learning experiences to cater to the needs and abilities of all children in an ever-changing technological world. We aim to ensure that children value and respect the fact that we are all different. We aim to develop in children the skills for life in a changing world. We aim to work in partnership with parents and the wider community. We believe that children achieve their best where there is a positive partnership between school and home. Pupils are taught e-safety and digital citizenship through the Welsh Government's scheme of work called "Digital Literacy" which gives them the skills to use the internet and digital media safely and responsibly. Local Education Authorities have a statutory duty to provide free school transport for pupils of statutory school age who reside beyond walking distance to the nearest appropriate school. The Council doesn't provide free school transport for nursery-age children other than some with a Statement of Special Educational Needs (SEN). The Vale of Glamorgan Council has a discretionary policy that provides financial help towards traveling to and from college. If your child qualifies for free school transport, permission will normally be given to travel on a contract vehicle if there is one serving your area.
