Since its founding, Hillside School has committed to offering the best educational experience in a structured, supportive environment. Our boarding and day program for boys in grades four through nine is unique in its ability to meet each student at his learning threshold and then truly maximize his potential. Hillside parents frequently give us credit for providing what a transformative experience for their sons is. Hillside School was founded in 1901 when two sisters established an independent school for boys. Practicality and compassion drove the genesis, along with a commitment to providing a structured, supportive, and challenging academic environment. Hillside's diverse offerings and character education have contributed to the development of superbly well-rounded young men for over a century. Hillside students, then and now, are encouraged to take risks with the knowledge that sometimes they will fail, but the support of their school community will never waver. Basic tenets such as determination, compassion, and tolerance guided Hillside students in 1901, just as they do today. The relevance of Hillside's founding principles remains, and these values continue to shape the school community. Today, Hillside is a premier junior boarding school providing exceptional academic opportunities to a diverse population of young adolescent boys in grades four through nine in preparation for secondary school. The school is defined by its inclusivity culture that fosters close relationships between students and teachers, made possible by a 7:1 student-teacher ratio. Students are encouraged to push themselves academically while continually focusing on their core values of compassion, determination, honesty, respect, and brotherhood. This communication system monitors student progress and behavior, brings attention to areas of concern, and often prevents small issues from escalating. Shades of Blue is also essential to Hillside's effort to keep parents informed of their son's academic and behavioral success and areas of challenge. Students who model and even exceed the Shades of Blue standards are recognized by our Bulldog of the Week and Bulldog of the Term awards, emphasizing the central importance of our core values. Hillside Junior School is a warm and caring environment where children can reach their true potential. We believe children should take responsibility for their learning. We have a great staff team who work together to provide a relevant and high-quality creative curriculum. We celebrate the diversity of our children and we are a fully inclusive school. Our wide and varied after-school activities reflect the importance we put on providing as many opportunities for our pupils. Parents and carers are welcomed into the school and we are proud of our links with the local community. As a Foundation School, we work closely with our Governors to ensure that every child has a safe and happy environment in which to flourish. We have a great staff team who work together to provide a relevant and high-quality creative curriculum. We celebrate the diversity of our children and we are a fully inclusive school. Learning takes place for pupils not only in the classroom but also in the extensive grounds and on the sports field. Our many before and after school activities reflect the importance we put on providing a variety of opportunities for our pupils. Parents and carers are welcomed into the school and we are proud of our links with the local community. We aim, jointly with parents, to encourage responsibility and self-discipline in all the children. A weekly achievement assembly is held in which a few children from each class are presented with certificates for excellent work, effort, or good behavior. In this way, we hope that the children will respect themselves more and will develop a sensitive, caring attitude towards others. Our aim at Hillside Junior School is to work in close partnership with parents and carers to support their children in every way possible. At Hillside Infant School we aim to provide a happy, caring, safe and secure environment for all our pupils. We offer a nurturing and highly supportive atmosphere, and we believe each child is unique. Our staff team works hard to support each child's individual needs. We believe in strong parent partnerships for our children to become independent and curious learners and be fully equipped for the next stage of their education. Our ethos centers around our four key values which are Trying our Best Every Day Kindness and Honesty Working as a Hillside Team Using Good Manners Our priority is to ensure that children have an excellent start to their education and are provided with an exciting curriculum to reach their full potential and achieve the highest standards possible. We work closely with parents and provide workshops and regular meetings on how to help children make good progress. We share individual pupil targets and children’s progress is regularly tracked and progress reviewed. At Hillside Infant School we are polite and respectful, we say please and thank you, we respect the equipment in school and we help our friends to tidy up. We respect our elders, we are learning to listen, we wait for our friends to finish speaking before we speak, we do not shout out in class and we enjoy listening to music. We take turns and share, during conversations, when we are reading in a group-standing in a queue, and during games with friends. We teach children to understand their emotional makeup and those of others. We promote common values that highlight diversity and equality, human rights, and responsibility. We deal with any allegations of bullying or harassment connected with prejudice and our exclusion and behavior policies do not discriminate against any groups. We are part of the local community. We visit Ruislip Lido, Emmanuel Church, Northwood Hills Library, and Northwood Hills local shops. We celebrate British festivals: Pancake Day, Mother’s Day, St. David’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day-St. George’s Day, Easter, May Day, Father’s Day, Bonfire Night, Harvest Festival, Remembrance Day, St. Andrew’s Day, and Christmas. We learn about Britain and its different cultures. We eat British foods: roast dinners-seasonal fruit, vegetables, fish and chips. We learn about the Monarchy and its history. We learn about the world around us. We celebrate special multicultural days from our local community and the wider world.
