Everything we do at Hereworth is designed to enhance your son’s learning, living and social skills during the incredibly important years of five through to thirteen. Boys are often misunderstood and labeled as ‘naughty’, ‘challenging’ or ‘lacking concentration’: we understand that boys need space, they need challenges and they need to be active learners. We have a school where boys can be boys, where they aren’t afraid to speak up and ask questions, and where good boys become great men. Located in the friendly community of Havelock North, Hereworth is set amongst 22 acres of established park-like grounds. We have many highly regarded academic, social and sporting amenities on our campus. These include a top-quality cricket oval, large grounds catering for all major sports, astroturf courts, hard court areas, and a swimming pool. Two adventure playgrounds, along with various hedges, trees, banks, and the wilderness area of ‘Scouts Gully’, provide plenty of challenges for the boys in their breaks from the classroom program. There is plenty of room for boys to run, chase, hide and use their imaginations. In collaboration with the boy’s family, we focus on academic success aligned with social, emotional, spiritual, creative, and physical well-being. We develop specific programs to maximize our influence on all our young boys’ minds, hearts, and hands. We want our boys to experience life! We want to engage boys’ spirit and wonder, to become motivated, passionate, caring and compassionate, not squash it. We are advocates of responsible risk-taking and encourage it. Our focus is on excellence in education. Learning is life-long and so we have carefully considered our curriculum to best meet the needs of primary-aged boys. We offer a wide range of subjects, even for our youngest students. Our classrooms are fully equipped with technology and e-learning is incorporated into daily class life. Core subjects of Literacy and Numeracy, as well as integrated units (Science, Health, Tech, and Social Science), are a key focus at the new entrant level. This is supported by music, speech and drama, art, languages, religious education, and physical education/Hauora, resulting in a well-rounded curriculum. We also tailor a specialized physical education and sports program for our youngest ones. The opportunity to join sports teams is optional for the very young, and we find most of them take it up. Specialist coaches of the highest caliber are brought in to coach the boys throughout the year, and we also take the boys to weekly swimming lessons. View full school
