UNCG is A learner-centered, accessible, and inclusive community fostering intellectual inquiry to prepare students for meaningful lives and engaged citizenship. An institution offering classes on campus, off-campus, and online for degree-seeking students and life-long learners. A global university is integrating intercultural and international experiences and perspectives into learning, discovery, and service. The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is a challenging, supportive, and engaged community. Founded in 1891, UNCG is the largest and most diverse university in the Triad, serving more than 20,000 students. Standing apart from other universities, the UNCG community is joined together by a shared value: We define excellence not only by the people we attract but by the meaningful contributions they make. UNCG has nearly 17,929 on-campus students and more than 1,700 others in extension programs enrolled for the 2016-17 academic year. Sixty-five percent of resident undergraduate students are female. Twenty-seven percent of resident undergraduate students and 15 percent of graduate students are African-American. UNCG offers 85 undergraduate degrees in more than 100 study, 74 master programs, and 32 doctoral programs. The student/faculty ratio is approximately 18:1. Fifty-five percent of full-time faculty are tenured, and 80 percent hold a doctorate or terminal degree in their field. UNCG's picturesque campus includes more than 30 academic buildings and 30 residence buildings on 250 acres. Opportunities for students have more than 200 student organizations, 17 Division I athletic teams, intramurals, club sports, wellness center, campus golf course, the student newspaper, student literary magazine, student radio station, music, and choral groups, drama and dance performance groups, concert and lecture series, film series, internships, Outdoor Adventures program, fraternities and sororities and community service. Your goal is to get a degree, but you also want your time at UNC Greensboro to transform you. Our academic environment goes beyond relevant fields of study and challenging coursework. It's about everything that we put into your learning experience and success. It's the advising you receive when you are ready to focus. It's the mentorship from renowned faculty members who collaborate with you on research and community partnerships. It's the staff members who help you master your project in the University Libraries or the Speaking and Writing Center. And it's the way your classroom experience is extended into the lab and across the globe. We'll help you create a successful and meaningful path to your goals so that you're prepared for the challenges and opportunities that come your way. This is where it all begins. Every lifelong connection. Every thought-provoking course. Every career-building research project and transformative service-learning experience. Every "I never thought I would do that" moment. Begin your path to an inspiring future right here. In and out of the classroom, the welcoming and engaged campus community, challenging programs, and relentless focus on student success at UNC Greensboro will help you reach not only the goals you've set but also the ones you have yet to imagine. While investing in your college education is one of the smartest financial decisions you can make, we understand that it's a significant expense. To help offset the costs, UNCG offers academically talented students with a variety of merit-based scholarships. Read on for an overview of these scholarships and how to apply them. UNCG takes learning outcomes and the value of education incredibly. We know that you (or your son or daughter) are here to learn about a specific area of study and how to carry forward the knowledge you gain to make a difference in your career and community. To help you better understand each program, the university publishes a description of expected learning outcomes that represent the basis of what a student should know, do, or value as a result of completing a program. The mission and a complete description of each program can be found in the Undergraduate or Graduate bulletin. With more than 20,000 students and 2,700 faculty and staff, UNCG is the largest state university in the Piedmont Triad and has an annual economic impact of more than $1 billion. The campus has grown to include 30 residence halls and 30 academic buildings on 210 acres. UNCG takes pride in being a learner-centered public research university. The College of Arts & Sciences and seven professional schools offer more than 100 undergraduate study areas and over 100 master and doctoral programs. The university holds two classifications from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching — as a "doctoral university with higher-research activity" and in-depth "community engagement" in our curriculum, outreach, and partnerships. More than $30 million in grants and contracts for research and creative activity are awarded to faculty members annually. The campus is known for its focus on enhancing health and wellness, promoting vibrant communities, and translating scholarly findings into programs, policy, and practice. Some of UNCG's most prominent research collaborations include the North Carolina Research Campus and Gateway University Research Park, including the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering. The curriculum's globalization has expanded opportunities for international education through new programs like the UNCG Exchange Program and the Lloyd International Honors College. Also, innovative signature programs such as Building Entrepreneurial Learning for Life (BELL), Communication Across the Curriculum, Undergraduate Research, and Freshman Seminars enhance the student experience. As a cultural leader, UNCG offers concerts, lectures, dance and theatre performances, exhibitions in the internationally known Weatherspoon Art Museum, and readings by nationally known authors. In athletics, Spartan teams compete in eight women's and seven men's sports in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. With ethnic minority students making up 48 percent of the student body, UNCG is one of the most diverse campuses in the UNC system. Although much has changed, some things remain the same. The university motto — service — continues to be a guiding principle put into practice through all aspects of university life.
  2. Founded in 1838, Greensboro College provides undergraduate students with a proper liberal-arts education while also offering four master’s degrees. Greensboro College provides a coeducational and independent learning atmosphere with approximately 1,000 undergraduate students from 29 states and territories, the District of Columbia, and seven foreign countries. We have 45 full-time faculty who teach 32 majors and more than 1,000 different courses directly to our students. We pride ourselves on our one-on-one contact between faculty and students, with no graduate assistants or teaching assistants teaching courses at Greensboro. We consider ourselves a leader in academic advising and leadership development programs. Besides, our 17-sport NCAA Division III athletic program is nationally recognized. Our affiliation with the United Methodist Church allows students to stay grounded in their faith and grow spiritually. When searching for the college that best fits you, think about what is most important to your overall experience and help guide you to a successful and prosperous future. If intellectual, personal, and spiritual development is essential to you, your search ends at Greensboro College. Greensboro College is a Yellow Ribbon school and is also designated as a Military Friendly School. The Strategic Vision Statement of Greensboro College, which frames the aspirations of the college for the long-term future: Greensboro College, grounded in the traditions of the United Methodist Church, aspires to provide all students with a transformative, universally designed educational experience that positively affects their lives so they may realize their full potential. The Mission Statement of Greensboro College, which is the definition of what GC is today and why the institution exists: Greensboro College provides a liberal arts education grounded in the traditions of the United Methodist Church and fosters the intellectual, social, and spiritual development of all students while supporting their individual needs. Unlike most small, private, liberal-arts colleges, Greensboro College is located within the vibrant downtown district of a medium-sized city. Shopping, dining, entertainment, nightlife, theatre, art, sports, and internships are close and convenient. Explore the vintage shops on Elm Street, or check out a show at the city’s beloved Triad Stage — it is all just steps away. Greensboro is a growing, thriving epicenter of art, theatre, higher education, business, and much more. It is the third-largest city in North Carolina and centrally located in the bustling Piedmont region. The city also is just a two-hour drive from the mountains and 3 ½ hours from the beach. Vibrant and diverse, Greensboro is one of North Carolina’s best places to learn, work, and play. Small numbers, like 12. That is the average number of students in a Greensboro College class. Like 13:1, our student-to-faculty ratio. Like 1,000. That is our entire student body. Like 17, the number of sports in our NCAA Division III athletic program competes in the USA South Athletic Conference. And especially like 1. We believe that each student is the one student we have the opportunity to genuinely know, encourage and prepare — in the classroom, in student life, in a career, and through his or her life. We celebrate all those who give power to small numbers. We celebrate that which makes each student his or her own. It is this rich patchwork of individuality, community, and experience that is unmistakably and uniquely Greensboro. From your first year as an undergraduate, Greensboro College works with you to prepare you for the next steps toward the future you desire, whether that is work, graduate school, or service. Our First-Year Experience helps prepare you for academic success, whether you are a traditional or adult student, and our Office of Career & Personal Development helps you, beginning with your first year here, to prepare for the next step you choose. Whether you are a traditional or adult undergrad, whether you are working on a certificate, a bachelor’s degree, licensure, or a master’s degree, our schedule s will fit your needs. Individually and collectively, our students (and faculty and staff!) have a long and healthy history of service, both to the campus and to the community of which it is a part. Whether it is growing vegetables in the campus’s community garden for Greensboro Urban Ministry or recording oral histories for The Healing Blues, building a Habitat for Humanity house, or going on mission work through our Village 401 service program, you have the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than yourself in service to others and lay the foundation for a lifetime of service to society. You come to us from more than 30 states and two dozen countries for a truly student-centered, liberal-arts experience. You come for our close-knit community, strong academic reputation, and one-on-one faculty attention. While at Greensboro College, your bright mind will develop so that you become a well-rounded student, a prepared professional, and an engaged human being who will go on to accomplish great things. Under the wings of dedicated faculty, you will shape your adventure — cleats to loafers, student government to religious life. Whether you are a future artist or athletic trainer, scientist or entrepreneur, Olympic athlete, or Teacher of the Year, it is our rich patchwork of individuality, community, and experience that is unmistakably and uniquely Greensboro College.

We prepare them not only for college but for life in a global society. We use the latest technology, a comprehensive curriculum, and a 65-acre campus for discovery. You will find teachers who build partnerships with our students and are fully invested in their development. Greensboro Day School develops the intellectual, ethical, and interpersonal foundations students need to become constructive contributors to the world. Since our opening in 1970, the school has intended to be a welcoming place to our entire community. Our student body represents many of the different ethnic groups within the Triad and cultures worldwide. Along with our faculty, they provide an engaging and safe environment for students to learn, explore, and grow. It is hard to pick out even one or two highlights of the student experience at Greensboro Day School. Greensboro Day School has it all, from our award-winning fine and performing arts and music programs to our championship athletic teams and academic programs that prepare students to enter the most prestigious colleges and universities. No matter what interest a student may have, there is more than likely a club or activity that they will feel comfortable joining. Our students are known for their public speaking abilities, problem-solving, debate, community service, and leadership. What unites us is a deep commitment to our core values of Wisdom, Community, and Respect - Wisdom, through our academic programs, Community through our commitment to service, and Respect through our deeply held adherence to an honor code. Greensboro Day School is a place where students can feel respected, held to a high academic standard, and bound to an honor code that supports them in ethical decision making. For children of all ages, digital media (smartphones, tablets, computers, handheld games, etc.) is an integral part of their lives. Often children spend many hours a day with these technologies. On the surface, it appears that these students are technology experts because of their facility with digital media. However, ease of use does not equate with digital literacy. At Greensboro Day School, we provide our students with developmentally appropriate opportunities to apply their technical abilities in an educational context. In our program, these students become successful digital consumers, creators, and communicators as they become constructive contributors to our world. Also, we assure that our students understand how to participate responsibly in our digital global society. At Greensboro Day School, students develop not only intellectually but also interpersonally. Through academics, service-learning, athletics, arts, and other extracurricular opportunities, students gain self-confidence, practice leadership, and ethical decision making. Whether through serving as a reading buddy in Lower School, participating in Learning2Lead as a Middle School student, or presenting to the entire Upper School during Assembly, Greensboro Day School students take advantage of new opportunities and experiences each day.
