Under our motto of freedom, truth, and creativity, Gangneung-Wonju National University is developing into a reliable university upon a sturdy foundation of 70 years of history and traditions with two campuses in Gangneung and Wonju of 380 faculty members, 300 employees, and 8,100 students, all working together. Notably, with the integration with Wonju University in 2007, we have moved forward as a leading university in Korea's central region beyond the eastern sea rim. Our university gained its reputation for ranking third place for publication and translation on a per full-time faculty member basis, fifth place for a student-to-full time faculty member ratio, fifth place for on-campus housing capacity, sixth place for books on a per-student basis, and seventh place for securing full-time faculty positions among the 28 major universities in 2017 National and Public Universities Major Public Indicators announced by the University Education Council. We promote regional development and regional human resource cultivation by strengthening university-industry cooperation. We have accomplished the five-year Leaders in Industry-University Cooperation (LINC+) project started in 2012. We currently have been operating the LINC+ project since 2017. Moreover, we were selected to receive government funds for the second phase of the Engineering Education Innovation Center for over ten years since 2012. We were selected for the Specialization Project for Regional University (CK-1) in 2014 and the Innovation Project for National University. These have contributed to customized industry-university cooperation, financial independence, and increased research competencies of faculty members and have enhanced students' learning experience. We raise outstanding individuals through creative academic studies and human respect education. Students from partner universities that have signed student exchange agreements with Gangneung-Wangju National University can apply for the exchange student program at GWNU. Exchange students can take classes not only in undergraduate courses at GWNU but also in Korean language classes without additional expenses and in various field learning programs. International students who want to participate in this exchange program should contact the relevant department in their university and can apply through a recommendation from their university. In the Yongdong area, where Gangneung is located, it provides the beauty of nature surrounded by mountains like Seoraksan, forests, and the East Sea. History is living and breathing here and with its abundant cultural heritage such as Ojukheon and Naksansa. Moreover, Gangneung provides a pleasant living environment where you can enjoy various leisure sports in every season, such as skiing, golfing, swimming, mountain climbing, and marine sports. Wonju is close to Seoul and has a convenient traffic network to many cities. It takes about one and a half hours by bus from Wonju to Seoul and about 30 minutes by KTX. As one of the big cities in Gangwon-do, it has a convenient living environment, and the prices are generally lower than in Seoul. Moreover, because Wonju is near beautiful Chiaksan and has many valleys, you can live and study in the city surrounded by nature's beauty. View full university
