We offer an inclusive, broad, and balanced curriculum which ensures that we give as many opportunities as we can for all our pupils to succeed. Not only do we challenge our pupils to do their best academically but we offer plentiful opportunities for success in other areas, particularly sport, music, and the creative arts. If your child has an iota of talent, be it sporting, musical or other, we do our best to help them find it and develop it! Most importantly, we ensure that Foulds pupils leave with the skills, confidence, knowledge, understanding, and attitude that they need to move on successfully to their next stages of learning." Children bring their own special experiences with them when they start school, which they are encouraged to share. By learning from each other, they help to extend other pupils’ learning. By encouraging them to work and learn with each other, we are preparing them for their role as citizens in the wider world, of secondary school, work, and recreation. The well-resourced classrooms, all on the ground floor, are arranged around the main hall. The reception classes are housed in a self-contained Reception unit joining the older main building. The school site also contains a library and a Computer suite containing fifteen internet-linked computers. Each KS1 and KS2 classroom also benefits from a high-speed broadband connection, an Interactive Whiteboard, and a set of netbooks/laptops. The Infants and Juniors have well-equipped playgrounds. The Byng Road playing fields, a short walk away, are used for Sports Days. At Foulds, we value each member of our school community and aim to meet that individual’s needs. In class, this means that we take care to ensure that all children can learn by supporting them and/or challenge them as appropriate. As a staff, this means that we believe in the benefits of teamwork, learning, and supporting each other so that we are all constantly developing our skills and expertise. As part of the team around each child, we ask all staff and families to sign the Home-School Agreement. All children have an equal entitlement to be taught the curriculum and we work hard to adapt our teaching methods and resources to the learning needs of individual children in our care. Sometimes extra teaching help or classroom assistant support may be made available for a particular child, but normally the class teachers, together with the Special Needs Co-ordinator, plan a program that is tailored to a child’s needs. Of course, learning can take place outside of the classroom, and the local community is an invaluable source of expertise and experience. At Foulds, we try to enrich the children’s learning through visits. Either the children go out to visit a site, museum, organized event, etc., or individuals or groups from outside the school visit the school. Children in Year 6 have the opportunity of going on a residential visit called our School Journey. They can participate in adventurous activities and fieldwork that cannot be provided in school and they also gain immense personal and social benefits from being together in such a situation. Several clubs are run by independent organizations on the school premises after school e.g. sports, Spanish, and Art. Details of all these are available either via the school newsletter or from leaflets positioned outside the school office. Children are encouraged to behave in a polite and considerate way at all times and to develop a sense of responsibility and self-discipline. The ethos of the school will support the individual regardless of race, social or religious differences. As part of a Rights Respecting School, we all work to respect other people's rights so that we don't impact negatively upon them. Children are taught to behave well both in and out of school and online. E-safety is an important part of the curriculum, and all members of the school community are asked to sign an Acceptable Use Policy. View full school
