We are fortunate at Fircroft to serve a diverse community in Tooting, South West London and this provides us with many opportunities to enrich the curriculum offered to our pupils. We value their cultures, languages, backgrounds, and talents, building their self-esteem to ensure successful learning and confidence to contribute to our creative community. Our Mission Statement: Success for all, in all we do, means Being a confident, creative community - our Fircroft Family. Confidence means comes from teaching and support that allows children to achieve all they are capable of, ensuring they gain the skills to move on to secondary school and ultimately out into life. Creativity means because of the way children are taught along with the breadth and depth of their experiences and opportunities. An education that values the academic, ensures literacy and numeracy but understands that a thirst for knowledge and finding your way in life can come from many different sources. Community means because we respect, value, and celebrate our differences and diversity, whilst recognizing that we are one community with shared aims and values. And we seek to imbue these qualities into all we do, with every member of our community – children, parents, staff, governors, and local people. We want the children in our school to develop an appetite for learning that will continue throughout life. We aim to provide the best possible quality of education and to get the best out of each child. If you visit our school you will notice the calm atmosphere and the warmth and friendliness amongst staff and children. All the adults at Fircroft are involved in some way or other in each child’s learning and we are continually developing our techniques for helping all of our children to make good progress. We expect parental backing with our policies and their involvement with their child’s learning. We are as good as the combined efforts of each member of our school community. We, therefore, refer to everyone in our school community as the 'Fircroft Family'. Our thematic approach to delivering the National Curriculum, by making natural links between subjects, provides the optimal environment to motivate and engage children and maximize learning. We have taken on a scheme called CornerStones, which has cross-curricular topics that last for a half term (sometimes for a full term in the EYFS) and which provides opportunities for children to engage, develop and express their knowledge, skills, and understanding in all curriculum areas. We take full advantage of the resources available to support learning. Being an inner London school, we are fortunate to be able to make use of the wide and varied assets both in our capital city and further afield. Educational visits are made by each class to galleries, museums, parks, and other places of interest, depending on their course of study. We have specialist teachers for Spanish, music, and computing as well as several coaches for a variety of sports. In addition to this, we offer an abundance of extracurricular activities (some free and some charged for) and at present have over 25 clubs running throughout the week, either before or after school. Parents and Carers receive annual curriculum letters and half-termly topic webs detailing what will be covered by each year group. These are also on display within the school.
