Falmouth Academy is an independent, college-preparatory day school serving girls and boys in grades 7 through 12. Since 1977, we've been educating students from communities across Cape Cod and the Islands, the South Coast and Southeastern Massachusetts, and from overseas as well. Remarkable teachers lead an innovative academic program that is deep in English, history, science, mathematics, and foreign languages and enhanced by signature offerings, including Arts-Across-the-Curriculum, Science in the Real World, and The Fourth Period and its 40-plus electives. Total enrollment is approximately 200 students. Class sizes are intentionally small, ensuring personalized attention and "no back rows." Falmouth Academy students become confident, active learners who read closely, listen carefully and think critically. They are scholars and musicians, athletes and artists, budding scientists, and aspiring authors who go on to thrive at many of America's finest colleges and universities. The school, located on 34 acres of fields and woods, is a short walk from historic Falmouth village and a quick drive from Woods Hole and its world-renowned ocean research centers and ferry terminal serving Martha's Vineyard. Middle and high school are critical times in the development of our children. The course of instruction is rigorous, focusing on writing, close reading, research, and effective time-management. Cooperative learning and independent research are central to the curriculum. Each student must take English, history, science, mathematics, and a foreign language every year. Through our innovative Signature Program known as The Fourth Period, students also take up to four elective courses each year. At Falmouth Academy, we value balance: our students learn to work attentively and play with enthusiasm. They practice a Haydn concerto with the same effort they put into writing an essay.
