St Fagans Church in Wales Primary School is a voluntary aided co-educational day school, situated on the western edge of the city of Cardiff in the parishes of St Fagans with Michaelson-Super-Ely. Originally situated in the village of St. Fagans, we moved to a new, larger building in February 1993 to meet the increasing demand for places. We are a very happy school, with a strong Christian ethos, in which children and staff feel secure and valued as individuals. Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning and provide an environment that prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens. St. Fagans Church in Wales Primary School aims to serve its community by providing education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. We encourage an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promote Christian values through the experiences we offer to develop the whole child. As a Church in Wales school, our vision and ethos are based on a spiritual and moral foundation. Our school is a special place, a safe place, a place of learning, a place of nurture and exploration. Our school must demonstrate openness and acceptance, tolerance and forgiveness. Here, values and attitudes are formed and every individual is celebrated as being unique. The school community has adopted a common set of core Christian values which underpin the curriculum, school policies, and the work of the governing body. They are the basis for the social, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and moral development of each child. We encourage pupils to consider these values, 4 thereby developing knowledge, skills, and attitudes that enable them to develop as reflective learners and grow to be compassionate, educated, and fulfilled members of society. We provide an attractive, stimulating, and welcoming environment with high-quality resources for learning both within and outside of the classroom. We have developed a broad skills-based curriculum that is accessible to pupils of all abilities and which is relevant and responsive to varying needs and interests. Good adult-pupil ratios and high-quality teaching support pupils to reach their full potential and to acquire the knowledge and skills which will enable them to adapt to the demands of an increasingly technological twenty-first century. In our curriculum and teaching, we strive to develop pupils with lively, enquiring minds who regard learning as a life-long process. Our inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning allows us to set our activities in ‘real life, relevant contexts and we maximize opportunities to take learning beyond the classroom as much as possible. In this way, we present learning as a process that continues beyond the domain of school and as a constant journey.
