- At Dorchester, we offer high-quality teaching and progress in a fun, stimulating, and caring environment. Our children strive for excellence in everything they do. We pride ourselves on being a friendly open school where all children try to do their best from the minute they enter school at three to when they leave for High School at 11. We have high expectations for all pupils. We welcome diversity and shared experiences, interests, and strengths. We have eighteen classes plus the nursery. Each class is a vibrant exciting, learning center where the children are challenged in a supportive, caring environment. We are proud of our school and the children’s academic and personal achievements. Our children say that Dorchester Primary school is an exciting learning experience. Children are caring and supportive towards each other. There is always lots of sport and exercise going on in lessons, clubs, in the playground, and on the Trim Trail. Our topics include regular trips which are fun and teach us lots of new things including model making. New children are always made to feel welcome and supported. Dorchester Primary School believes that every child has the right to receive an appropriate, broad, and balanced curriculum. This helps to prepare children for the world they live in. To keep parents informed of the curriculum taught in school, below are the current schemes of work for each year group for Numeracy and Literacy. Throughout the school, we use the “Bug Club” reading scheme which has home-read books and texts for group and whole-class teaching as wells as online e-readers, comprehension, and phonics activities. Children receive a log-in for Bug Club and this can be obtained from your child’s teacher if you are unsure. The School Council is an ideal opportunity for pupils to get more involved in the way the school is run, including everyone from Reception to Year 6. It benefits the whole school, pupils, and teachers because it allows pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made. Councilors develop skills such as confidence, communication, and negotiation. It is the responsibility of each Councillor to ensure that they express both their views and the views of all the other pupils they represent. View full school
