- Founded in 1797, Deerfield Academy is an independent, coeducational boarding and day school located in Western Massachusetts. To advance Deerfield’s commitments to high scholarship standards and a rigorous curriculum, the Library is a welcoming and service-oriented environment. It provides the community with resources and services to find and use information effectively, fosters student research skill development, and offers study and collaboration spaces. Library staff protects each library user is right to privacy and confidentiality concerning information sought or received and resources consulted, borrowed, acquired, or transmitted. Students staff faculty alumni faculty of Bement, Eaglebrook, and Stoneleigh-Burnham schools approved Deerfield tutors former Deerfield employees residents of the town of Deerfield parents of a current student and employee relatives may borrow library materials. Users are asked to present their Deerfield or other ID cards to check out materials. Any library patron may place a hold on a currently-checked-out item. Information Desk staff are happy to place holds, or users may place their holds online (search the Library catalog for the title of interest; if it is Not Available, click the Place Hold button and follow the prompts). Users will receive an email notification once the item is ready for pick-up. Students and others will be charged the cost of replacement for any item not returned after a bill has been issued and for damaged materials. Reference, rare book collection, some interlibrary loan titles, and the most current periodical issue do not circulate and may be used only in the Library. Students at Deerfield pursue a rigorous college preparatory curriculum that fosters creativity and intellectual maturity and promotes individual and community growth through shared challenges. Deerfield realizes the need for more than a sole pursuit of academics and has developed the academic system to allow students the opportunity to connect with many aspects of the Deerfield community while also pursuing a satisfying academic course load. Deerfield’s teachers, many of whom have advanced degrees in their field of study, provide both structure and a caring atmosphere for learning. Deerfield has a comprehensive advising and support system. Deerfield offers a wide array of courses across seven academic departments, including many electives, so students can choose from various classes that will interest and challenge them.
