- Chamber Junior School is located in the village of Abertrdiwr near Caerphilly, and servers the village and the immediate locality. The school was opened on the 30th January 1989. We are an inclusive school for pupils aged 7 to 11 years old. There are currently 150 pupils on roll. We are a Community School. Our feeder school is Cwmaber Infant School. We are a school that is committed to inclusive education, meeting the needs of ALL the children in our care. We want the children to be excited about coming to school and to love learning. We want them to be motivated and challenged. The school has a dedicated staff who take pride in providing high-quality education. Our mission statement, ‘working together to be the best we can be – great within cyd within is the key to the success of our school. We very much value and appreciate the positive support of our parents and the wider community and strive for an open and welcoming environment where we can work in partnership for the benefit of our children. In literacy, we have been learning about Instructions and we are reading The Night Pirates by Peter Harris and Deborah Allwright and exploring Roald Dahl's stories. For maths we have been investigating coordinates - we are looking for Pirate treasure. For our work in Humanities, we are finding out about historical Pirates such as Blackbeard, Anne Bonney, and Welsh Pirate Henry Morgan. We have designed a new Pirate Flag and we are going to write messages in a bottle. In ICT we are learning about computational thinking and coding. We are taking pictures and tweeting them. It has been a busy start to the Autumn term and we have already started to work hard and enjoy our learning. Our topic is 'Keep Calm and Carry On!' where we will research, what life was like during WWII. The class has recently visited Cardiff Castle and found out how the castle played an important part during WWII. We also learned some wartime songs and even used stirrup pumps to practice putting out fires. Feedback from the pupils was 'the trip was EPIC!! View full school
- Chamber Infants’ School is a small school situated in the village of Abertridwr, about 3 miles from the town of Caerphilly. It caters to children from the ages of 3 to 7 years of age and has its Nursery unit. There are approximately 120 children on roll in the main school. Most of the children who attend our school live in the village of Abertridwr, but some live further afield. The school was built in 1912 and started life as a Boys’ Secondary School. It is a beautiful stone building, set into the hillside, with glorious views over the Valley. The classrooms are large with high ceilings, and the classes share big “workshop” areas. Also, we have a dedicated computer suite and library. We have a large, attractive yard for the main school with a “trim trail”. The nursery has its yard with a multitude of activities. Also, we have a small garden with benches and an outdoor classroom, which greatly enhances our learning opportunities. Should any parent/carer wish to visit the school, arrangements can easily be made. Parents/carers are always welcome at the school but it is better to make an appointment beforehand. As expressed by the pupils of Cwmaber Infants, our school is... safe, helpful, colorful, kind, sensible, clean, good and welcoming. Learn, Care and Share and Centre of Excellence. To enable all to become successful, confident, life-long learners, and inspire a love of learning. For pupils to operate as independent learners and thinkers. To provide a relevant curriculum for all. To develop respect and understanding for each other within our school, local communities, and the wider world. For pupils to value themselves and the environment. Chamber Infants School regards good, punctual attendance as being vital to the educational progress of the individual and the class. The attendance register is taken, electronically, at the beginning of each morning and afternoon session and follows the attendance codes from Caerphilly Council. Chamber Infants School gives a high priority to attendance conveying to parents and pupils that regular attendance is vital and that unauthorized absence is unacceptable. After carrying out significant research, the Welsh Government is placing a strong emphasis on improving attendance levels in all schools.
