Cramond Primary is a non-denominational school built-in 1975. The school serves the village of Cramond and the surrounding areas of northwest Edinburgh. We are part of the Royal High School cluster and work closely with the other associated primaries of Blackhall, Clermiston, and Davidson’s Mains. The school roll is over 400 pupils. We have a custom-built nursery on-site with places for 50 pupils in the morning and 50-afternoon places. The playground area consists of a tarmac area, field, trim trail, and wildlife garden including an outdoor classroom. Our PLACE has been developed over the summer of 2014. The nursery class has large separate outdoor areas. We continue to develop our outdoor learning spaces. Cramond has fostered many links with its community, particularly Cramond Kirk, St. Columba’s Hospice, Scottish Wildlife Trust, Cramond Heritage, and BAA. We also work closely with local nurseries, cluster primaries (Blackhall, Clermiston & Davidson Mains) along the Royal High School. Parents who wish to exercise their right to withdraw their child from religious instruction and/or observance should contact the school, in writing, and alternative arrangements will be made. We offer as wide a range of sporting and cultural activities as possible. We are starting work this session on becoming a rights-respecting school, We celebrate diversity and enjoy learning about many other World Religions, cultures, and beliefs. Parental involvement in sharing this is actively encouraged. We undertake a great deal of charity work – fundraising for charities such as Macmillan Cancer, Fresh Start Edinburgh Initiative, Disaster Appeals, Homes for Humanity, and acting as a good neighbor with our termly community cafe and sharing learning. As a health-promoting school, Cramond promotes positive attitudes to healthy living. We provide a minimum of two hours of planned PE every week. Our Active Schools Coordinator Mattie, organizes many sporting events throughout the year including judo, tennis, rugby, football, and plans after-school activities for various year groups. As well as this we take up many other opportunities for physical education – for example through working with Telford College students and S6 pupils from The Royal High School. Mrs. McKay our Principal teacher leads the school in sport, health, and wellbeing. We take part in regular school competitions excelling in netball, football, and swimming. Recently we have taken part in cluster racket competitions including table tennis, badminton, and tennis. As a school, we participate in interscholastic and many fun, non-competitive activities. We have a ski race team who train on Friday afternoons along with our ski club. A swimming gala team and we offer block lessons for P5 swimmers in school time. As we work towards achieving Rights Respecting school we know how important it is to be a good sport and supportive of our teammates. In this session, we have introduced sports leaders at Cramond. It is vital pupils come dressed to learn and play outside whatever the weather! Waterproofs and wellies can be stored in cloakrooms. A PE kit is essential – outdoor school hoodies are available from our uniform supplier. Suncream, hat, and shades are needed in warm weather. View full school
