      1. Chapin's rich educational tradition dates back to 1901 when Maria Bowen Chapin founded the school. Our mission is to prepare a diverse and talented young women community to thrive and lead in a global society by dedication to academic excellence, personal integrity, and community responsibility. Our students are artists, athletes, computer programmers, engineers, musicians, and physicists, often at the same time. From Kindergarten to Class 12, they all share a home at 100 East End Avenue, which encourages collaboration and life-long friendships and vibrates with their warmth and energy. The Chapin School prepares a diverse and talented young woman community to thrive and lead in a global society through its dedication to academic excellence, personal integrity, and community responsibility. Chapin cultivates in each student a love of learning, independent thinking, emotional resilience, and a dedication to serving others. Chapin is committed to diversity in its culture, curriculum, and program. Believing that an equitable, inclusive community is essential to learning, Chapin actively seeks families, faculty, and staff who bring a range of experiences to the school. Chapin embraces and respects differences in age, ethnicity, gender, learning style, physical ability, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic class. Expecting and requiring respect for others are hallmarks of our educational process. The Chapin School is committed to prioritizing efforts that advance sustainable living. Through practice, teaching, and sharing, community members promote conscientious use of resources, thoughtful regard for the environment, and innovative use of materials and technologies. Chapin believes that global solutions begin locally and, as a community, will rise to face our world's challenges. Members of our community will play leadership roles in promoting environmental sustainability as they conduct operations, support the professional community, and prepare students to contribute in the future. Chapin is committed to employing a respectful and thoughtful educational process for this vital work. Chapin's college-preparatory curriculum focuses on each student's total development, from her academic progress to her social and emotional health. Through the liberal arts, athletics and clubs, fine and performing arts, and enriching social activities, a Chapin education challenges students' minds while providing the foundation for a lifetime of curiosity, creativity, intellectual achievement, and an understanding of the power of empathy and compassion. Chapin prepares students to thrive and lead in a world with very different challenges and opportunities than those awaiting previous generations. While the core skills remain as important as ever, there is a new premium on communicating, using and managing information, collaborating in diverse teams, and thinking critically and creatively about issues and problems. Our educational plan is designed to strengthen these capacities and to ensure, as before, that Chapin graduates leave us with a lifelong love of learning, resiliency, perseverance, and an understanding of the value of helping others.
