We pride ourselves on high standards of teaching and a coherent program of learning from Nursery through to Form 8. This is perhaps best measured by the outcomes for our pupils. In the classroom, we aim to take our children well beyond the conventional curriculum expectations for 13+, through a coherent program of learning from the Nursery and early years towards success in Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations in Form 8. We prepare girls and boys for senior schools all over the country, offering parents the choice of the very best schools in Edinburgh, across Scotland, and the United Kingdom. Do look at the future school destinations of our Leavers when they move on at 13+. There is a broad range of abilities at Cargilfield but a combination of excellent teaching, high expectations, and small classes (an average of 14-16 children per class) help to explain our results. Cargilfield is a family school, with boarding at the heart of what we offer an extension of our family home and a place where children are valued members of the community and secure of their place in that community. We play sport every day and creative activities such as music, drama, art, and design are an important part of our curriculum. We also offer over 50 clubs that take place during the term, either during the day, the evening, or onboarding weekends. Whether it be cooking or jewelry making, climbing or archery, skiing or fencing, debating or dance, your child will find something to enjoy at Cargilfield and develop interests for their future education and the rest of their lives. Cargilfield intends to make its education as accessible as possible. To help make this happen, the school offers financial assistance through its own Bursary Fund. This Fund is specifically designed to enable any child to have access to a Cargilfield education, irrespective of their financial circumstances, and to encourage a wide diversity of pupils at the school. The Fund is also available to support current parents in financial need. We are an open and inclusive community, and visitors often comment on the friendly and warm atmosphere they find at the school. School life is never without its ups and downs but we do our best to support children and their families to get the most from these important years of development. Cargilfield is proud to be one of the few independent prep schools north of the border. With no ties to any particular senior school, we prepare girls and boys for the leading independent schools in Edinburgh and across Scotland and the United Kingdom. One of the unique features of Cargilfield is that we have always maintained a close bond with our parents and former pupils. Throughout the year, we hold several events: weekly Chapel services, musical recitals, poetry readings, numerous play productions, our annual Summer and Christmas Fairs, and several social events organized by the Friends of Cargilfield. Parents are welcome to join us on our annual whole school Pentland Round charity walk and we hold regular drinks receptions to allow parents to meet others and talk with some of the staff.
