- Calshot School is situated in a residential area near the City of Birmingham’s northern boundary with Walsall and Sandwell. It serves families from both owner-occupied and rented accommodation with pupils from a variety of cultural backgrounds. The school was first opened as an Infant School in September 1947 in temporary accommodation. The Junior School was subsequently opened in 1951 as a two-story permanent building. The Infant and Junior School then amalgamated in September 1993 to form Calshot Primary School and then the early years and infant departments were rebuilt and now adjoin the original two-story junior building. In the Birmingham community, cohesion means working towards a society in which strong and positive relationships exist and continue to be developed in schools, in the workplace, and the wider community. This is achieved through shared values which would include: the valuing of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, tolerance, and mutual respect of people’s backgrounds and circumstances promoting equal opportunities and challenging discrimination, all of which is based on the Equality Act 2010 and is non-negotiable. In our school, we make provision for all pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). A pupil has to SEND where their learning difficulty or disability calls for special educational needs provision that is a provision from, and additional to, what is normally available to pupils of the same age. Learning difficulties or disabilities fall into 4 areas. We know that some children will have difficulty in more than one area and will do our best to meet their needs. All children in school have support within lessons through differentiation and quality first teaching strategies. This means activities are planned according to the level the pupil is working at. This can include a variety of adaptations including changes to the physical environment, changes to teaching styles, as well as levels of adult support. View full school
