Buttercup Primary School was the result of a strong intention, dedication, and hard work from a young mother who carried a vision of creating a safe and secure learning environment, that will consist of highly qualified members of staff who will pursue the goal of bringing up the next generation of young children with well-balanced teaching of both the National Curriculum and the Islamic Curriculum with high standards. Today the school continues to strive to be a welcoming center of learning in which Islamic education is flourishing. Muslim values, principles, and standards lie at the heart of our education alongside a strong recognition of world faiths and the multicultural society in which we live in. Our vision is to develop a Muslim generation capable of analytical and critical thinking who become Muslims by conviction and who will strive to fulfill their role positively and proudly in multicultural Britain alongside others. Our excellent facilities and resources develop enjoyment and pleasure in learning and promote the personal development of our pupils both spiritually and socially to become well-rounded individuals who can make a valuable contribution to society. At Buttercup Primary school most learning takes place in cross-curricular lessons based on a theme. Each term every class studies a different theme some are science-based, some are historical and others have a geographical bias. Over a year, pupils will experience one of each. The themes are exciting and pupils have the opportunity to help to plan them. In addition to the class themes, our curriculum includes themed weeks and days which are a focus for the whole school. These special themes reflect the context of the school and our local community and include Eid, black history week, Charity week, maths Week, International Week, Science Week, Multimedia week, Be Healthy Week, Islam awareness week, and Book week. It is a curriculum that has been designed & shaped over many years to be as exciting as it is relevant & to fulfill our school vision of preparing our pupils for life as global citizens in modern Britain. The modern era brings us pressures, images, messages, desires, and wants that divert our attention from what is important. Among the many medicines left to us by The Prophet Muhammed (saw) is to help us maintain clarity of vision and purpose is that of archery – a Sunnah with an illustrious past. The Prophet (saw)is known to have encouraged his companions to learn and practice archery. There are many hadiths in which he mentions archery as one of the sportsmen must teach their sons. It was this love of archery and love for the Sunnah of The Prophet (saw) that led to many of the victories by Muslim armies. At a time when our children are struggling to engage with their religion, to get sufficient exercise, to maintain focus and concentration, does archery not present itself as a hidden gem buried deep within our history? therefore at Buttercup Primary School, we will aim to revive this sunnah inshallah and instill in our children the art of archery.
