At Burntwood, we are proud of the established tradition of success that encourages our students to be independent, articulate young women who take power and control over their lives in an informed and intelligent way. Burntwood School is recognized as a Science Specialist School and has the coveted 'Sportsmark' and 'Artsmark Gold' awards. Examination results continue to be excellent at both Key Stage 3 and 4. Of course, our 6th Form results too are well above National Averages. Burntwood School is an inclusive community, this is recognized by the Rights Respecting UNICEF Award. We provide opportunities for all our learners, whether they have special educational needs or are part of our gifted and talented cohort. I believe that our students deserve the best and at Burntwood, we understand the importance of a collaborative approach between staff, students, and parents, working together to support the students in reaching their full potential. At Burntwood, we believe in offering a broad and balanced curriculum to all of our students in all years of the school. As a school, we have agreed to follow the requirements of the National Curriculum and to ensure all our students are on an even playing field with other students both nationally and locally. The Government is making several changes to qualifications both at GCSE level and A-Level over the next few years. We have reviewed our curriculum offer to ensure it is fit for purpose and that it incorporates the new requirements of the Government’s review. The standard curriculum is taught during the school day and is followed by all students. We offer an extended curriculum for students to take extra subjects (eg. a second Language), in addition to the standard curriculum. Enrichment is open to all and consists of clubs, societies, and supervised homework periods in all curriculum areas as well as rehearsals for school events, for example, the choir or orchestra. Enrichment takes place after school, at lunchtime, and even before school.
