Brynhyfryd is a bilingual co-educational comprehensive school for pupils between 11 and 18 years of age maintained by Denbighshire Education Authority. The School’s bilingual ethos reflects the community it serves. At Brynhyfryd we aim to offer an education of the highest standard possible which tries to meet the needs of individual pupils within a supportive and happy bilingual environment. Every pupil will be encouraged to develop self-respect and a positive, responsible attitude towards life in general. The School has a strong work ethic and aims to motivate all pupils to achieve their very best at all times. Brynhyfryd is a successful school and the key to that success is the close partnership that exists between the School and its parents, a partnership that works for the benefit of each pupil. The purpose of the Pupil Deprivation Grant is to improve the educational attainment of pupils from low-income families and who are entitled to free school meals (FSM). Schools are expected to maximize the use of this funding by introducing sustainable strategies which will quickly lead to improved outcomes for pupils entitled to free school meals. Our students have the right to be educated in a safe environment where they are not subjected to any form of bullying. It is the School’s responsibility to ensure this happens. Our School’s core value is centered on respect and it will be clear and well communicated to everyone in our community. A range of preventative anti-bullying strategies will be put into place and an effective whole-school approach developed so that incidents of bullying requiring a response will be minimized. If bullying does occur, our support and sanctions will be proportionate and promptly implemented. Our aspiration and challenge are to create a bully-free school. Unfortunately, bullying exists in all organizations and all walks of life. There is no quick-fix response to bullying and our work needs to be ongoing. It is essential to engage with parents (and the wider community) and encourage them in supporting the School’s antibullying work as bullying is not confined to school time and what goes on within its environment. We are very pleased to welcome you to Brynhyfryd Junior School website. The website aims to keep you up to date with school news and events and also give you an insight into the learning experiences our children enjoy. At Brynhyfryd Junior School we offer a broad and balanced curriculum delivered to the children by a dedicated team of staff. It is our aim that all the children develop the skills necessary to become lifelong learners and can play a full and rewarding part in society. Brynhyfryd Junior School is situated in an urban location just outside the center of Swansea. It is a well-established area of mainly traditional terrace housing. There is a separate infant school located on the other side of a busy main road and at secondary age, the majority of our pupils attend Pentrehafod Comprehensive School. The school building itself is over 100 years old and comprises classrooms situated around two main halls. We have more than adequate teaching space which has enabled us to create specialist teaching areas a library, a music room, a C.D.T. room, and our recently refurbished interactive learning resource room which houses 15 computers. We are fortunate to have a very supportive P.T.A. that works hard to provide exciting events for our children and extra funding for our school. We also house a thriving family learning support group. Brynhyfryd seeks to provide a secure and safe environment within the school where each child has a sense of belonging. With parent's help, individual teachers will know children in their classes well and provide the ‘front line’ of care. Beyond this, there are the wider resources both within the school and the authority to help individual problems when and if they arise. Parents are encouraged to discuss with teaching staff any problems that affect their child’s life and work in school or at home.
