The school is located in a quiet residential area in London, between Hampstead, West Hampstead, and Swiss Cottage, and was founded in 1958, by Mrs. Mary Berkery. The school’s policy is to provide a happy, caring, and secure environment in which every child can develop individually and is motivated and encouraged to reach his or her full potential. Our curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage which develops an engaging, challenging, and stimulating learning experience for our young learners. Our skilled and experienced staff ensure an exciting journey across the areas of personal, social, and emotional development, communication and language, literacy, mathematics, expressive arts and design, understanding of the world, and physical development. Very young children have a natural curiosity and enthusiasm. We aim to harness these qualities through an active, stimulating, happy, caring, and secure environment, in which our children can flourish into confident, well-prepared, and highly motivated learners. The children are taught in small classes with a teacher and assistant teachers providing a good ratio of adults to children. Broadhurst School is a co-educational pre-preparatory school for children from 2 and a half to 5 years plus. It is situated in a residential area in London between Hampstead, West Hampstead, and Swiss Cottage and was established in 1958, by Mrs. Mary Berkery. Her son Brian Berkery is the Proprietor and the Head Teacher is Mrs. Zoe Sylvester. Children normally join Broadhurst at about two and a half years old and spend either two or three years in the school depending on when their birthdays fall. Most continue at five to the preparatory schools in the North West London area. The younger children attend school for three hours a day in either morning or afternoon sessions while the older children attend for about six hours a day. All of the classes maintain a child-staff ratio of between 4:1 and 8:1 and all of the staff have appropriate teaching or early years qualifications. View full school

We are a small, friendly Primary School in Moston, North Manchester, which offers good quality education to children from Nursery through to Year 6. All our children have talents and strengths and we believe it is vital to provide the children with the opportunities to develop their strengths, behave well, support each other and grow in confidence. At Broadhurst Primary School we are committed to ensuring a happy and successful start for our pupils. We invite new pupils to visit the school before they start to meet their Class Teacher and we also organize a home visit just before your child begins Nursery or Reception. The Class Teacher, accompanied by the Teaching Assistant, will bring activities for your child and answer any questions you may have. This will be a short visit but has proved to be beneficial to both the school and the pupil. At Broadhurst Primary School, we recognize the vital role which parents play in the education of their children. To ensure the best possible education for each child, we endeavor to build a partnership between home and school. Vital to this partnership is communication. The Headteacher or Class Teacher will always find time to discuss any worries, concerns, or problems which parents may have, although an appointment may sometimes be necessary. To support the child’s learning, regular home learning activities will be sent home by the Class Teacher. These activities are linked to the learning the children are doing in the classroom. We hold a weekly Coffee and Chat after Friday assembly where parents can meet with the Headteacher to discuss any issues or work on school policy. Rules are few but firm and are mostly concerned with courtesy, consideration for others, personal safety, and the safeguarding of property. Children are expected to follow these rules and encourage others to do so. We encourage children who break the rules to consider the effect of their actions on themselves and others but we have firm and clear sanctions also. You will receive a letter home if unacceptable behavior has occurred. If the behavior is persistent you will be invited to meet with us to work out a joint ‘Plan of Action’. Please let us know if there are problems because working together we can solve them. The school operates a strict ‘Anti Bullying Policy, which clearly states that bullying of any kind will not be tolerated. A copy of this Policy is available on request. We aim to be a caring community in which each pupil is important. The immediate care for each pupil is the responsibility of the Class Teacher, who will encourage your child to develop skills both socially and academically, encouraging them to develop self-motivation and self-discipline. When difficulties arise the children will be encouraged and helped to formulate solutions to these difficulties which they can carry out themselves, helping to encourage self-confidence. Should a difficulty arise either at home or school parents/carers are asked to discuss this with the Class Teacher or the Inclusion Manager so that any extension of the problem can be avoided. Care and consideration for others are promoted throughout school life. Good manners and polite behavior are encouraged from each pupil. The ideas and opinions of the children are highly valued and a School Council is appointed to represent the views of every pupil. Every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfill their potential. A child’s experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe, and happy childhood is important in its’ own right, and it provides the foundation for children to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up. When parents choose to use early years services they want to know that provision will keep their children safe and help them to thrive. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the framework that provides that assurance. We believe that the curriculum should be exciting and engaging to stimulate curiosity and encourage the children to ask questions. All the children should be able to access the curriculum at their level and it should be real and relevant to them. The curriculum should reflect the locality in which the children live but should also teach them about the wider world and prepare them for life beyond school. We have adopted the Learning Challenge Curriculum where every topic or theme begins with a question. To engage the children the topic is launched with a WOW experience which could be a visit or a visitor.
