Our mission is to deliver top-quality education to all of our children across the Trust by tackling the barriers to learning and responding to contextual needs. We are committed to ensuring that our children are ready for the next stage in their life, equipping them with the necessary skills both academically and socially. As the Admissions Authority for the community and voluntary controlled schools in Manchester, the LA is required to draft, consult on, and determine their admission arrangements. Where there are more applicants than places available the LA will apply the admission arrangements to decide which applicants will be offered places. Admission arrangements for voluntary aided schools, foundation schools, free schools, and academies are set by their Governing Body, who are, the Admission Authority for their establishment. They are responsible for drafting, consulting on, and determining their admission arrangements. Copies of admissions arrangements for these types of schools/academies in Manchester can be found on the school/academy website and the LA’s website. They are also available on request from the relevant school/academy and the LA. All parents/carers are required to apply to their home LA regardless of where the school/academy they are applying to is situated. Manchester residents will apply to Manchester LA. The LA will liaise with other Admissions Authorities in Manchester and other LAs where required. Manchester LA will inform parents/carers in writing of the outcome of their application. Waiting lists will be held in criteria order according to the oversubscription criteria. Waiting lists will not be operated on a “first come, first served” basis. The amount of time an applicant is on a waiting list will not affect their position on it. For the Primary Admissions Round, a waiting list will be held up to the end of the autumn term. At this point applicants will be required to re-apply for the school should they wish to stay on the waiting list. For In Year applications, waiting lists will be held for the term in which the application was made. At the end of the term, all applicants will be removed from all waiting lists. The only exception to this will be if the applicant has not been offered a place. In this circumstance, the applicant will be kept on the waiting list for the next term. Details of the waiting list process will be on the application forms and the offer letters sent to applicants. The construct of our curriculum reflects our passion for developing the holistic child by kick-starting each topic with an exciting hook into learning to engage our learners at the start of each topic. Weekly thought-provoking statements provide opportunities for discussion and debate, encouraging speaking and listening skills both in school and at home. Missions provide the opportunity to apply the Basic Skills learned within Maths and English lessons in a fun and engaging way. The life journey of inspirational people has been chosen to be entwined with the National Curriculum to engage and enthuse even the most boring of lessons. Briscoe Lane Academy caters to children from 3 – 11 years old. We are inclusive and aim to meet all children’s needs and support their development in the most appropriate way to ensure they reach their full potential. We provide additional support for children with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The Education Act 2002 places a duty on schools to have arrangements in place to ensure that they safeguard and promote the welfare of children and follow statutory guidance. Governing Bodies must have someone who understands the requirements of the safeguarding guidance and legislation. At Seymour Road, we are committed to ensuring the safety of all of our children with rigorous policies and procedures in place. School Governors now play an increasingly significant role in the running of schools. We feel it’s a huge privilege to serve the school, and play our part in ensuring the children at Briscoe Lane receive the education they deserve. School governing bodies are made up of volunteers who are responsible for working with the school to ensure that it delivers a good quality education. Individual governors bring a range of experience to the group, drawing on their professional expertise and often their knowledge of the school as parents or as part of the local community. Pupils who experience difficulty in accessing the curriculum may also have a particular gift or talent. This is addressed through the Gifted and Talented Provision, in addition to provisions made for their specific need. Special Educational Provision may be triggered when pupils fail to achieve adequate progress, despite having had access to a differentiated curriculum. At Briscoe Lane Academy, children become part of a friendly cooperative environment where there is an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust.
