      1. Building on a rich history of academic excellence as one of 14 public universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, Bloomsburg University prepares and inspires students to become dynamic and confident leaders. More than 2,000 volunteers, the Community Government Association's annual The Big Event has become the largest community service event Bloomsburg University holds. Each spring, student volunteers venture to more than 100 job sites across town and in local neighborhoods, tackling various needs from raking, painting, and cleaning. Among the locations included The First Presbyterian Church, Children's Museum, Kocher Park, and roughly 75 local residences. Student volunteers tackled various chores such as raking, painting, gardening, mulching, removing debris, digging, and various spring-cleaning duties. Sponsored by the CGA, the single-day community service event allows students to say "thank you" to Bloomsburg area residents and show appreciation for the community we live, learn and work in. As the university on the hill, Bloomsburg University overlooks the Town of Bloomsburg. It is situated a few hundred yards from the community's business district with Bloomsburg Hospital across the street from a residence hall cluster. If Bloomsburg University determines that the spring commencement ceremonies will operate under the Rain Plan, then all ceremonies on Saturday will be held in the Nelson Field House on Upper Campus. Please note the alternative times listed here if the Rain Plan is used. Tickets are REQUIRED for entrance into the Nelson Field House. Students will be given an allotted number of tickets. No additional tickets are available. Doors will open one hour before the ceremony. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Honors provide unique educational opportunities and experiences for academically talented students. The program challenges students to aspire to high academic standards and to achieve more professionally and personally. Students engage in various service activities that foster cooperation and altruism. Students conduct independent research in your major, become part of a community of ambitious scholars, have opportunities to explore the world, and more. Each summer, we invite a group of select individuals to campus for an intensive six-week experience that will serve as a foundation for life-long achievement. Throughout the academy, you will gain confidence in mastering college-level work and will ultimately acquire the tools you will need to graduate. The Summer Preparatory Academy allows us to work with high school seniors who have academic potential, but based on one or more of the factors below, need an intensive summer experience to help them achieve academic success: GPA, SAT/ACT scores, class rank, and rigor of academic subjects. Students complete ONE application to apply to multiple scholarships automatically. The scholarship awards are posted to student's financial aid records, and the students receive email notification of the award. Incoming first-year students and transfers should apply before Jan. 15 for priority consideration. For current students, the scholarship application period opens Jan. 1. Professional U connects students with alumni, employers, and opportunities integrating the academic experience with professional experience in "real world" settings. By exploring professional development topics and experiential learning, students build skills and confidence that prepare them for personal and professional success upon graduation. Once again, Bloomsburg University has been named a Military Friendly School from Victory Media, GI Jobs magazine publisher — it is second as a Silver Level Award. As a result, BU is ranked in the top 10 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools in the country, working to embrace military service members, veterans, and spouses as students ensuring their success on campus. Certificates allow you to gain specialized knowledge in a subject area that might lead to professional growth or even a new career. Shorter than bachelor's degree, certificates provide a fast way to jump-start your career! Certificates are available in digital forensics, digital rhetoric, and professional writing, medical genomics and counseling, pre-medical science, and rehabilitative justice. Ranked among the nation's top northeast universities, Bloomsburg University offers 56 programs leading to bachelor's degrees, 58 minors, and 20 graduate programs, including a doctorate in audiology and nursing practice — each preparing students for personal and professional success through experiential learning opportunities that complement classroom learning. With 56 bachelor's degree programs, Bloomsburg University is the right fit for more than 9,600 undergraduates. Building on the long tradition of teacher education, today's BU is a comprehensive university where students earn bachelor's degrees in science and technology, business, health care, social sciences, liberal arts ... and, of course, teacher education. Bloomsburg University also offers preparatory programs for students planning further study in law, medicine, and engineering. An honors program for academically talented students, exchange agreements with institutions worldwide, and an emphasis on civic engagement add to BU's atmosphere of learning. Bloomsburg University has more than 600 graduate students pursuing advanced education in 18 master's level programs and doctoral programs in audiology and nursing practice and seven different certification programs. BU's graduate programs cover a wide range of disciplines, from clinical athletic training to business administration to special education and emerging career fields like instructional technology and community health specialization. Through the School of Graduate Studies, students learn to become critical thinkers, independent researchers, and experts in their chosen field. View full university
