We take PRIDE in everything we do, all of which is done to enrich the experiences our children receive. There is also plenty of information and guidance on how to support your child with their learning at home. We believe in a strong relationship between school and home. Ensuring that all children are safe at Biggin Hill Primary School is given the utmost importance. Children cannot thrive academically unless they are in an environment where they feel completely safe. Good mental health and wellbeing are an integral part of having a successful education, and we work hard to ensure this for all our children. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all of the children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We ask all adults in school to be aware of any potential dangers and to follow three simple steps if they have any concerns. The school works closely with safeguarding services provided by the London Borough of Bromley as well as Gooseberry Planet. Gooseberry Planet provides high-quality safeguarding training for all adults in school, training for parents on online safety as well as games and apps that children can use to develop their understanding of keeping themselves safe. Biggin Hill Primary School is a larger average Primary school with 2 classes in each year group. The average class size is currently 27. The academy is situated on the outer edge of the London Borough of Bromley and benefits from proximity to London amenities as well as rural scenery. The site has 2 main buildings housing KS1 and KS2 separately due to the amalgamation of the previously separate Infant and Junior Schools in 2008. As well as the 2 buildings the school has substantial grounds which provide a rich outdoor learning environment for the children. There are currently 360 pupils on roll with 50.6% boys and 49.4% girls. The percentage of pupils currently eligible for the pupil premium is 12% which is below the national average and the school provides an action plan that is monitored and reported on termly. The school is predominantly made up of White British pupils with 12% of pupils from other ethnic backgrounds, which is well below the national average. The number of pupils in school for whom English is an additional language is 6, just 1.6% well below the national average. At Biggin Hill Primary School we use a system that tracks all children's achievement about age-related outcomes. We use ‘Learning Ladders’ to support this system which allows children to know what they have learned and what their next steps are. As a school, we use teacher assessment to track the children's progress 6 times a year when we provide a report for parents regarding their progress in reading, writing, and maths. An end-of-year report, reports on achievement in other areas of the curriculum. At Biggin Hill Primary School we use an inquiry-led approach that challenges our children to take control of their learning through a broad and balanced curriculum.
