Parents have a crucial role to play in this and by working together we can ensure that all students enjoy their time at school, make excellent progress and leave us with the necessary skills, attitudes, and qualifications to lead successful and fulfilling lives. Regular attendance in school is vitally important. A teacher cannot teach an empty chair and the school target for attendance is a minimum of 97%. We have been very impressed with the appearance of Bellerive pupils they are a credit to you and the school. Bellerive FCJ has been educating girls in Liverpool for nearly 170 years – and more recently boys in the Sixth Form – preparing them for the lives they will lead once they leave the school for the final time. Bellerive FCJ Mission Statement: To help everyone within a caring community to grow in faith To respect and value other cultures and faiths To make the most of every given ability To enjoy and achieve personal growth and academic excellence To prepare pupils for their adult life, playing a full part in a modern global society Students in Year 7 are taught in mixed ability form classes in all subjects except for Maths and French/Spanish. Decisions around setting are made in the autumn term and are subject to regular review. Students in Year 8 and Year 9 are taught in mixed ability form classes except for Maths, Science, and French/Spanish. Students in Year 10 are set in Maths and Science only. At Bellerive, we are very clear about the importance of reading. By encouraging students to read both for pleasure and to improve their subject knowledge, we wish to foster a life-long love of reading. We have recently refurbished our library and several reading initiatives are taking place including ‘Drop Everything and Read’ (DEAR) and pupil-led reading groups. In the days leading up to World Book Day celebrations this year, we welcomed award-winning author Alan Gibbons into school to inspire students to get reading and learn more about his life as a writer. The jam-packed day kicked off with two laugh-a-minute assemblies for Year 7 and 8, followed by a book-signing and four author-led workshops, where selected students from across the years had the chance to develop their writing by coming up with adventure or horror stories under the expert guidance of Alan. Students produced some brilliant, thoughtful, pieces. A fantastic time was had by all and it’s sure to leave a lasting and inspiring impression for all students involved. Extra-Curricular activities and clubs take place during lunchtimes or at the end of the college day. These include sports, subject clubs, drama performances, musical rehearsals, and also support sessions. Also, there are many educational and enjoyable trips, which may take place during the day, the evening, or at weekends. We deliver a PSHE program to all students from year 7 to Year 13 which addresses all aspects of our student’s development as local, national, and world citizens. This program is delivered in form groups each week. The first FCJ school opened at number 3, Great George’s Square, offering instruction in ‘Geography, use of globes, Botany, History, Writing, Arithmetic, and French and Italian languages.’ The Foundress wished to establish a boarding school, partly to finance the work among the poor of the city and partly as a means ‘of doing good among those who would be in a position to influence others later on.’ In 2012 as an outstanding school, Bellerive is invited by the DofE to become a Voluntary Converter Academy. The status is gained on June 1st, 2012. In the same month, Section 5 and 48 inspections judged Bellerive to be ‘outstanding’ in 5 of the 8 categories and good in the remaining. 904 pupils on roll. A new Hall is built on the main Bellerive site. It is named ‘Marie Madeleine Hall’, after the foundress of the fcJ sisters. In 2014 the extension to Elmfield was completed, which has given a new classroom block and science labs.
