At Beecholme, we have high expectations of all children and staff and encourage every child to become independent, confident, and enthusiastic individuals. We encourage and develop their social skills so they can be happy, tolerant, and considerate of others. Alongside this, we also want them to do well at school academically, developing them as effective learners who achieve to the best of their ability and make good progress. Here at Beecholme, we believe in an inclusive, varied, engaging, and challenging curriculum, with dedicated staff who have high expectations of our children and want them to succeed. We encourage all our children to undertake challenges and become independent learners and we support these ambitions by offering a positive, calm, and hardworking environment where all children can do well. On 1st September 2016, the school opened as an Academy, becoming part of the Chipstead Valley Academy Trust(now known as PACE Academy Trust). These are very exciting times for our new school. Having a strong partnership between home and school results in all children behaving and learning to the best of their ability. We are also a listening school and encourage any parents or children to come and see us if they have any concerns. Children will be eligible for consideration for entry to the nursery from the term after their third birthday. Applications for nursery places in Beecholme Primary School should be made on the application form available from the school website or school office. Nursery offers for autumn 2018 and spring 2019 term entry will be made in May 2018. Any remaining vacancies for summer term entry will not be offered until February/March 2019. Beecholme Primary School participates in the Pan-London Co-ordinated Admission Scheme. Waiting Lists Where there are more applicants than places available, waiting lists will operate for each year group according to the oversubscription criteria shown above and without regard to the date the application was received or when a child’s name was added to the waiting list. Children with an Educational, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or statements of special educational need will take priority over children on a waiting list. Waiting lists for entry to Reception in September 2018 will be maintained strictly by the admissions criteria for the school until the last day of the Autumn term. Parents wishing to remain on the waiting list after this date must write to the school by 31 December 2018, stating their wish and providing their child’s name, date of birth, and the name of their current school. Applications for Reception from 1 September 2018 and for other year groups will be considered through the mid-term admission process. For in-year applications, children with an Education, Health & Care Plan, those to be admitted through the borough’s Fair Access Protocol, looked after children and previously looked after children will take priority over children on a waiting list. Waiting lists are then held according to the remaining admissions criteria for the school. If you wish to apply for a place at the school outside the normal admissions round you should complete London Borough of Merton’s in-year application form, naming this school, and submit it to the Council, with any supporting evidence required. If there is a waiting list and/or more in-year applicants then places available at that time. Understanding the World We will use the role play area to take care of dolls, dress up, and imitate cooking. We will also engage in small world play using the dollhouse, teddy bears with a variety of props to set a teddy bears’ picnic, and a café to ‘order’ food outside. We will talk about special events and celebrations such as Christmas, Diwali, and Guy Fawkes Day. We will go on a ‘listening walk’ and an ‘autumn walk’ and we will discuss what we observe around us. Talk to your child about what happens to leaves during autumn and winter, what happens to the weather, and the appropriate clothes to wear during these seasons. We will focus on a range of movements such as hopping, skipping, running, etc. We will focus on holding pencils using a tripod grasp. We will also encourage dressing and undressing independently. We will promote how to use play equipment and tools safely and appropriately. Talk to children about how to be safe around the house e.g. point scissors away from them when cutting. We will learn new nursery rhymes listen to stories on Bears, Autumn, and Christmas. We will practice writing our names and learn to form letters of the alphabet. We will also focus on recognizing environmental sounds and initial sounds in words. Writing books will be sent home on Friday to practice letter formation. Please ensure that your child returns it on Monday. We will encourage the use of language through naming, everyday objects, and discussing their uses talking about the weather and the seasons, etc. Children will listen to each other in small groups and respond to questions-who, where, what? They will learn to follow simple instructions through activities and games such as ‘Simon says. Promote the love for reading by sharing a story at home.
