The 21st Century facilities that we provide support an innovative approach to learning that provides our pupils with the digital skills that will prepare them for an active role in society. The wider facilities enable all our pupils to fully participate in all elements of curricular and extra-curricular provision and ensure that everyone has the appropriate support to reach their potential. Expectations of all pupils are high and for all our pupils to flourish a good working relationship between home and school is critical. Together we can ensure our pupils reach their full potential. Pupils of YBB will be provided with a curriculum that seeks to develop them academically, practically, socially, and culturally. This includes not only the formal program of lessons but also the “informal” program of enhanced learning opportunities that will prepare pupils for lifelong learning. The organization of the curriculum at each level, together with the approach to teaching, complies with the requirements of the National Curriculum and the statutory requirements of the Welsh Government. The children will be given opportunities to develop their skills across the curriculum, building on their previous learning experiences, knowledge, and skills. Children will learn through first-hand experimental activities using indoor and outdoor environments that are fun, exciting, stimulating, and safe places for them to learn. Children in Year 1 and Year 2 are also taught Religious Education. Children from age 7-11 are taught within the year groups Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, and Year 6, and study the National Curriculum. The National Curriculum consists of subjects English, Mathematics, Science, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Welsh, Design, and Technology (DT), Physical Development (PE), Religious Education (RE), Music, Art, History, and Geography. At Key Stage 3, the following subjects are studied: English, Mathematics, and Science (the Core subjects). In addition, the following Foundation subjects are studied: History, Geography, RE, French, Welsh, Art, Music, Drama, Technology, ICT, Games, PSE, and PE. A child‘s years in primary school are a once-in-a-lifetime chance of laying the foundations of learning. Parents and visitors who come to our Early Years department speak in glowing terms of the quality of the classroom and the care and dedication shown by the staff. It is here that the pupils of Baglan Primary School begin the adventure which is to be their primary school education. The school is set in a large site with its playing fields, large playgrounds, and a nature reserve with a fine pond. In spring, the beautiful flowering cherry trees which adorn our site remind us that all children must have the opportunity to grow, blossom, and fulfill their potential. All our staff is caring, dedicated and devoted to this task. When children leave our school we expect them to have become independent and self-motivated learners who have respect for themselves, for others and their environment. On the pages of this site, you will see the awards we have won and the wonderful experiences given to pupils which we hope will enable them to achieve these high expectations.
