Aqaba University of Technology (AUT) was established in response to the visions of His Majesty, Abdullah II, king of Jordan, for comprehensive development in the south of the kingdom and Aqaba governorate in particular. The university has responded to the advice of Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) to investors to establish a private university, so the Aqaba University of Technology was the first private university that has been established in the south of the kingdom with an ambitious vision to be a distinguished university attracting students, and a favorite choice for students from Jordan and the region. AUT is a Jordanian national institution that has been established to serve the kingdom and the region in general and Aqaba in particular. The most important of which are the faculties of Pharmacy, Engineering, Administrative, and Financial Science Information Technology and the faculty of Arts and Sciences. The first group of students has joined the first semester of this academic year 2015\ 2016 in five majors: Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Computer sciences, and Software Engineering. The second group of students in the 2016\2017 academic year joined the following majors: Pharmacy, Civil Engineering, and Architecture. AUT strives to create a rich and comfortable university environment for students from inside and outside Jordan to give them opportunities for learning, creativity, and leadership. The university also cares about the four types of learning to create a balanced personality for students, including learning knowledge, learning the practical and applied skills necessary for students to succeed in their careers, and learn the skills of dealing with others such as teamwork skills, voluntary work, and the ethics of accepting others and respecting democracy, learning self-development skills, such as continuous learning skills, self-improvement, positivity, hard-working and disciplined. AUT also opens its doors to serve the local community, hosting seminars, lectures, meetings, and activities for serving the community. It also encourages research and studies that aim at serving and addressing local problems and issues. It is also interested in developing study and training programs to serve local needs. The university seeks to make partnerships and work plans with the local community to cooperate in these issues and focuses on voluntary work for young people to promote faithful citizenship values and develop their skills. AUT is the first private university in the south of Jordan with an ambitious vision to be a distinguished university that catches students' eyes and a favorite choice for students from Jordan and the region. The university is situated about fifteen kilometers to the south of Aqaba's city on the hills, overlooking the Gulf of Aqaba on a vast land of five hundred Km2. The university received the first group of students in the first semester of the academic year of 2015\2016 in the Faculty of Administrative and Financial Sciences and the Faculty of Information Technology. The university is working continuously under the guidance of its Board of Trustees, which Dr. Abd al-Salam AlMajali, to develop new specialties to meet the job requirements in the region that catch students' eye from Jordan and the region. AUT plans to develop several specialties for the first semester of the academic year 2016\2017 is including Pharmacy, Civil Engineering, and Architecture, and other specialties shortly, including Medicine, Interior Design, and Graphic Design. AUT is committed to providing its students with high quality educational and learning experiences by submitting a variety of academic and professional programs to promote the personal, social, academic, and professional development for students, in addition to the contribution in the cultural, social, and economic development for the community, in a way which meets the requirements of the developmental plans for Aqaba region and the neighboring areas. Aqaba University of Technology (AUT) is taking care of students from outside Aqaba City. For this reason, it has established accommodations for male and female students. The male students' accommodation capacity is 328 students. It contains spacious rooms with a sea view within the university. For the female accommodation, it has 264 students and contains spacious rooms in a safe area for female students inside the university campus. AUT library is located on the floor of the leading educational building of the university. It is an extensive library of about 1200 m2. In the middle, there are glass facades in front of a garden that has natural lighting. The library accommodates up to 350 students at one time. The library's contents include 29000 pieces of books, periodicals, references, and encyclopedias. Work is in progress to widen the library in order to support new fields in the university.
