  1. J. Addison School is not just a building. J. Addison School is not just a group of classrooms with students in them. J. Addison School is not just reading, writing, and arithmetic. My definition of the name "J. Addison School" is more of a concept. It is the interaction of different people with a common focus – educating students to their highest level of ability. But the term "education" is not just learning content, facts, and processes, but how to be successful in life. At J. Addison, we continue to grow, and we are proud that we 'educate our students not to cut down jungles, but to irrigate deserts.' I am thrilled to serve as the principal of J. Addison School. It is a privilege to lead this learning community during a time of incredible change and tremendous possibilities. Our challenge is to embrace the future of the 21st century and assure that our students are adequately prepared to become leaders in this exciting new world. In order to accomplish this monumental task, we must provide the following: a high level of personalization in every aspect of a student's high school experience a proud recognition for individual and group accomplishments as well as for diligence and hard work an unwavering commitment to the development of character and civic responsibility in our young people To our students, we ask that you reflect on your goals and strive not only to pursue personal excellence but also to demonstrate your perseverance and integrity. Know that I am here to support and encourage you to explore different possibilities and grow as a learner. Remember that with these opportunities comes both a personal and collective responsibility to support one another. we will count on you to go beyond tolerance and treat all members of our community with respect. A school that aspires to greatness can expect no less. At J. Addison School, we endeavor to provide an inclusive environment that fosters cooperative learning, intelligence, creativity, and innovation. We encourage students to continually and conscientiously challenge and motivate themselves to their full potential. At J. Addison School, we cultivate a multidimensional educational environment beyond academic accomplishments and personal achievements. We motivate our students to aim high and push boundaries and never lose sight of respecting and embracing the uniqueness and talents of one another. We arm them with skills and values vital to becoming a responsible global citizen, so they will be ready to face the future with confidence, integrity, compassion, independence, and leadership. At J. Addison School, we are committed to providing engaging and rewarding childhood educational programs by following the Montessori philosophy and methodologies. We carefully tailor a harmonious, balanced, and non-competitive environment where children are free to explore, interact, and apply themselves in a wide range of tasks and activities. They are empowered to follow their unique abilities and talents to build confidence and competence as they pave their path of self-discovery, growth, and development. Our dedicated professional Montessori teachers are always present to guide, facilitate, and support children through continuous observation and self-motivated learning processes. We aim to nurture the innate desire in children to learn naturally, and most importantly, to help them grow while developing joy and passion for learning. At J. Addison School, our Elementary program offers our students a Montessori based learning classroom combined with the highly enriched academic curriculum of a Private School. This combination provides a challenging academic environment with a balanced approach to the education of children. Our advanced curriculum is coupled with developing social skills, character traits, and personalized attention while providing a secure and safe learning environment. The Elementary Program follows the Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum and the Montessori Method of Education and Private School Standards. The Montessori Method of Education and its philosophy facilitates academic success that meets and surpasses the provincial standards. Along with a challenging curriculum, we have teachers who provide enrichment in the core subjects. Meanwhile, French, Music, Computers, and Physical Education are taught by specialist teachers. Consistent with the Montessori approach to education, our elementary and middle school programs incorporate a wide variety of creative and carefully developed concrete hands-on materials, which clarify abstract principles. Students progress from understanding facts and concepts to the development of abstract reasoning, critical thinking skills, and advanced problem-solving skills. Furthermore, our "Focus For Success®" adaptive program, referred to as FFS, is also implemented into the general curriculum. This unique program provides extra valuable opportunities for our students to explore new talents and strengthen already learned skills through personalized support and extra-curricular activities; thus, it adds another dimension to our students' overall development. The FFS program takes place as the last class in our regular school schedule. At J. Addison, we embrace the Ontario curriculum because Ontario provides one of the world's best educational systems and curriculum. According to international measures and independent expert assessments, Ontario is recognized as and is proven to be the best school system in the English-speaking world — and right up at the top with Finland, Singapore, and South Korea. Our Ontario Certified Teachers work with Ontario Ministry Curriculum Guidelines as the foundation for providing lessons that will prepare our students for any paths they choose to pursue in post-secondary. Moreover, our unique "Focus For Success®" adaptive program, referred to as FFS, complements the Ontario curriculum and adds another dimension to our students' overall development. The FFS program is implemented as a 5th Period in our regular school schedule. Students will receive academic support if needed and participate in extra-curricular activities of their choice to further enrich their student life. View full school
