A Child's years in primary school are a once in a lifetime chance of laying the foundations of learning. Parents and visitors who come to our Early Years site speak in glowing terms of the colorful, well-resourced classroom environment and the warmth, care, and dedication of the staff to the children. It is here that the children of Abbey Primary School begin the adventure of their primary school education.
This large school is set over three sites with its playing fields, playgrounds, a nature reserve with a pond, and outdoor learning is high on our agenda, and we aim to provide pupils with fun, exciting outdoor activities. In addition to our academic curriculum, we provide an alternative curriculum to ensure all children have opportunities to grow, develop, and fulfill their potential. All our staff is caring and dedicated to providing the best possible chances for our pupils.
When children leave our school, we expect them to become independent and self-motivated learners who have respect for themselves, others, and the environment.
On the pages of this site, you will see the awards we have won and the beautiful experiences of pupils, which we know enables them to achieve with high expectations. Our vision for the future of our school is to continue to pursue higher standards through a broad and cohesive curriculum with an emphasis on independence and creativity. Through these, children can take responsibility for their learning, make informed choices, and solve problems. Our children need to develop skills and attitudes that will enable them to learn how to learn, become more socially adept, and effectively manage their feelings and emotions. Our school will foster an ethos of challenge and high expectations with high self-esteem, respect, and understanding of others' cultures and beliefs. We will seek to provide experiential and explorative learning opportunities, building on what the children already know. We believe it is vital to work in partnership with parents and actively encourage them to become involved in the school's life. We recognize the importance of continuity in the learning process and share expertise and experience with other schools and settings. We will raise awareness of broader issues by involving members of the learning community and exploring the surrounding environment. Learning is a life-long process, and it is our responsibility as adults to model active learning. Therefore, this vision statement applies to everyone who has a role to play in the provision of education at our school.
