Welcome to Wichita Collegiate School. More than five decades ago, several courageous families, dissatisfied with their children's education, banded together and started Wichita Collegiate School. Their dream for a better school lives on today. The mission of Wichita Collegiate School is to educate today's students to be tomorrow's leaders through a diverse and caring community with passionate teachers and an inspiring curriculum.
Collegiate's founding emphasis was on academic excellence in a college preparatory program. It provided individual attention to and recognition of each student in a low student-teacher ratio environment. It underscored the importance of the development of sound personal values for responsible citizenship. Collegiate has always remained committed to providing the highest quality educational environment while embracing necessary changes that have made learning more effective and more meaningful for our students.
WCS offers a rigorous college preparatory environment where academics come first. Daily after school tutorials are a hallmark of the Middle and Upper School schedules. Our Upper School curriculum offers more Advanced Placement classes than any other school in the region.
The culture at WCS is one of caring and respect. Helping others begins in the classroom with our youngest students and continues through high school as our students reach out to the community. Our students learn this not because hours are required but because our students love giving back to their community.
Wichita Collegiate School is committed to academic excellence. We strive to provide innovative and challenging educational programs to prepare students for higher education and productive and personally fulfilling lives.
Our commitment to academic excellence includes an accelerated curriculum, opportunities for advanced-level courses for students who desire greater depth in a subject, and a focus on finding the optimum college placement for each of our graduates. Our focus is on the individual student, and our goal is to inspire each student to do his or her best. This is facilitated by small classes, an "active learning" environment that combines hands-on experiences with learning by doing, and close relationships between our faculty and students.
Experienced educators designed Wichita Collegiate School's academic approach and curriculum from Preschool through Grade 12. Our program depends on careful sequencing, avoids unnecessary duplication, and ensures broad coverage of traditional subjects. Students at each level are fully prepared for the next level, ensuring a well-rounded student who can discover hidden aptitudes and passions.
Wichita Collegiate School provides a technologically integrated and innovative environment in which students connect, communicate, collaborate, and create. The Collegiate classroom incorporates age-appropriate technology in every student's hands to streamline workflow and maximize hands-on learning. Our students gain skills, knowledge, and self-confidence through their use of technology and become digitally literate citizens.
Wichita Collegiate School also has Innovation Labs for both the middle and upper schools, providing students with hands-on learning opportunities to use technology, machines, and creative materials to research, diagnose and design creative solutions to real-world problems, better-preparing children to be productive global citizens.
When a student has been identified with a learning difference, we create an individual learning plan with targeted accommodations. Examples of accommodations include using a calculator, providing a reader or recording for quizzes and exams, using a scribe, oral testing, extended time on tests, testing in a quiet room, and allowing students to use books on tape. WCS also has a fee-based Learning Lab program on campus, providing private tutors that meet during school hours to help students achieve academic success. They help with specific skill-building as in Alphabetic Phonics and provide classroom support for homework preparation, study skills and strategies, and exam preparation. Classroom teachers are trained and know providing accommodations and working with a variety of learning differences. Classroom teachers and enhancement teachers follow the Individual Learning Plans and evaluate each student's progress throughout the school year.
We have had such fantastic success with our two children in the program. Our teachers' and tutor's attention to detail is phenomenal and have left no stone unturned when it comes to our children's accommodations, learning plans, tutoring sessions, and after school tutorials. We are so very grateful to Collegiate for offering this assistance to learning different children!
WCS is a school where it is as cool to be a musician to be an athlete. Students do not have to choose between athletics, academics, and the arts because they can do it all. WCS students are encouraged to become involved in multiple activities and discover their passions.
