Founded in 1926, we continue today as an Atlanta independent school serving children in Kindergarten through Grade 12. With an emphasis on the whole child, we provide integrated experiences in academics, arts, athletics, and service through an education grounded in learning, character, and community. The Lovett School is an independent, coeducational day school. Lovett's mission is to graduate young men and women of honor, faith, and wisdom. Through these principles, we seek to develop the whole child.

As a college-preparatory institution, our coursework is substantial, and creative and critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and a love of learning are significant objectives. Outside the classroom, Lovett encourages our students to discover themselves through the arts and athletics. The statistics bear this out: Close to 90 percent of our student body participates in a Fine Arts activity during the year, and more than 80 percent of students in Grades 7-12 are members of at least one sports team.

The Lovett community is guided by the school's character pledge, which begins: "We, who are members of the Lovett community, seek to live lives of good character." Lovett welcomes students of many different faiths and backgrounds. Although not formally affiliated with any specific denomination, Lovett's philosophy is rooted in the Judeo-Christian tradition and values. It encourages a sense of responsibility to God, respect for diversity, service to others, and moral awareness.

The Lovett School celebrates each individual's uniqueness within an intentionally inclusive, diverse, and welcoming environment. We recognize that our community is enhanced as we seek to appreciate and respect the differences among our students, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni. We are committed to supporting this environment through classroom instruction, professional development, and another curricular and co-curricular programming under our nondiscriminatory policy.

Lovett offers experiences that inspire our students to love learning. We encourage them to think critically, communicate effectively, engage creatively, and collaborate purposefully. We provide the opportunities and resources that help our students develop independence and self-direction and extend their learning beyond the classroom walls as they grow intellectually, emotionally, physically, aesthetically, morally, and spiritually. The Lovett student:

    • Is a person of character who lives the ideals articulated in our character pledge and is prepared to think and act with empathy as a responsible global citizen in an increasingly diverse landscape.
    • He is creative, constructing imaginative ideas and innovative alternatives and applying his knowledge to non-routine problems, particularly those without rule-based solutions.
    • Thinks critically and reflectively. As a researcher, he can navigate much information, analyze and synthesize what he finds, and draw evidence-based conclusions. As a problem solver, she is more interested in asking the right questions and developing ideas than memorizing facts.
    • He is an effective communicator who listens attentively, speaks articulately, writes clearly, and conveys his ideas and understandings in various formats using the language of his discipline.
    • Works collaboratively to create a new knowledge base, comprising multiple perspectives. She builds leadership skills by facilitating group discussions, forging consensus, and negotiating outcomes within a diverse group.
