The Harley School opened in 1917 with ten mothers creating an educational opportunity for their four-year-olds. Today we serve 3- to 18 year-olds, preschool to Upper School commencement. A donation to the school today renews that same spirit, demonstrating your support of a unique educational experience for each of our students. We invite you to join the many parents, alumni, and friends who contribute to the growth and vitality of the place so many call “home.”
Today, we have grown to a school of 500 for children ages nursery to grade 12. Harley has been fortunate in the last decade or so in that supporters have helped us upgrade most of the facilities on campus, most recently including The Commons (devoted to education for a sustainable future), the Winslow Natural Playground and Outdoor Learning Center, the Moore / Brown Center for Creative Media, and the Peckham Wellness Center. We turn toward our second century as healthy and vibrant as we have ever been.

Students in all grade levels at Harley participate in service-learning. From our youngest students who collect canned goods and nonperishable items for a local food cupboard and animal shelters to our highest grade level students who volunteer in hospice homes, our students need to serve the broader community.
Service-learning is required at Harley, and all students participate in service projects to introduce and educate them about the value and satisfaction of community service. Each class or homeroom completes its service commitment in a different way.
For Upper School students, a service-learning designation will be made on the transcript for any student who documents and submits a minimum of 20 hours of service. Students who want more involvement may join the White Key Volunteer Club, which regularly offers opportunities to work both in school and in the broader Rochester community. Members keep a log of their volunteer hours at church, school agencies, or other organizations. Students who have volunteered 100 hours or more of service over a given year are recognized with a White Key Award at the Honors Assembly each June.
