Stone Ridge is a Catholic, independent, college preparatory school in the Network of Sacred Heart schools for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational early childhood program, Little Hearts, which serves children three-month olds through Kindergarten age. Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart inspires young women to lead and serve through lives of purpose that integrate faith, intellect, community, social action, and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.
As a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Washington, students at Stone Ridge study the Catholic Church's teachings at every grade level, participate in sacramental and devotional life, and embrace the social responsibilities shared by all Christians. Stone Ridge is a Catholic school for children of many faiths and promotes a deep understanding and respect for people and religions worldwide.
Inherent in its Catholic identity and Sacred Heart tradition, Stone Ridge maintains a global, ecumenical perspective enhancing the faith life of all community members, including the students, faculty, parents, alumnae, friends, staff, and administrators. The curriculum and extracurricular activities recognize every individual's unique gifts, talents, and viewpoints, providing excellent programs in academics, arts, athletics, and service leadership.
Stone Ridge provides a distinct educational experience from Preschool through Grade 12. In addition to our vibrant Bethesda campus, the Network of Sacred Heart Schools connects Stone Ridge students with peers in 22 schools in the United States and 44 countries worldwide.
Our academic program in Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools teaches students to think critically and prepares our graduates not only for college but for meaningful lives as adults. Our belief in developing the whole person means that a Stone Ridge education involves much more than academic success. We provide an array of spiritual development opportunities, athletic and fine arts programs, and a real commitment to teaching students to be socially aware.
For nearly a century, Stone Ridge has offered a remarkable educational experience focused on developing future leaders who will serve with faith, intellect, and confidence. Our youngest students in our co-ed Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten, as well as our girls in Grades 1-12, benefit from our tradition of academic excellence, athletic achievement, artistic endeavors, and strong faith.
As part of a Sacred Heart Network of over two hundred schools, we celebrate many time-honored traditions at home and abroad, including Spirit Days, Congés, Feast Wishes, and Father/Daughter Field Day. More importantly, the friendships our students make at Stone Ridge and with our sister schools around the world are ones that our students cherish for life.
Choosing the right school, not only for the student but also for the family, is one of the most important decisions a family can make. Every child is unique, and finding the right educational match is the key to her success. For many girls, a single-sex school is a perfect environment for academic growth and fostering development in extracurricular talents, leadership, and self-confidence.
Boys and girls learn differently. Teachers at girls' schools can capitalize on the girls' learning styles, giving them a vital skillset to build upon. Students tend to display their intelligence and curiosity in an all-girls classroom setting without the worry of social stigma. This confidence, mainly gained at a young age, carries into the students' more advanced studies.
