Milton Academy is an independent college preparatory K–12 school, boarding and day in grades 9–12, located eight miles south of Boston. We are delighted to share Milton with you. Milton has long fostered critical thinking and has understood how important diversity is for learning. Our Transition Program for incoming, self-identified students of color was initiated in 1985. Since then, we have welcomed the opportunity to evolve curriculum and programming to best support our students. Through authentic relationships with faculty members who become allies and mentors through many student-led cultural affinity groups, robust assembly and speaker programming, and campus initiatives new and old—such as the Host Family Program and Social Justice Peer Educators—we work to make sure our students build relationships and networks at Milton. We are always eager to identify new opportunities for growth and innovation.
When we are connected with a group that understands who we are, we are more able to appreciate others’ abilities and understand the traditions, gifts, and challenges that each of us contributes. Even conflicts provide essential opportunities for students to learn how to be firm in who they are, yet flexible and thoughtful in exploring how their ideas affect others. The sharing of experiences and perspectives builds essential life skills.
