Welcome to the Marian Catholic High School website where the search for truth continues. We hope to give you a snapshot of our school where young searchers come daily to engage in scholarship, leadership, faith, and service.
Marian Catholic is a Catholic, college-preparatory, co-educational high school in the Dominican tradition, with deep roots in the local community and, traditionally, from beyond it. Our diverse student population travels from over 70 zip codes for nationally recognized programs in academics, fine arts, and athletics.
Twice recognized as a Blue Ribbon School and named by the U.S. News & World Report as among the top schools in the country, Marian Catholic High School is a leader of all schools in the Southland, public and private, in every academic assessment - ACT, Advanced Placement, PSAT.
The Dominican tradition of scholarship is empty without the prayer, community, and preaching that completes the "Four Pillars" of the Dominican Order. The young men and women of Marian Catholic engage their faith and live it out in service and in a myriad of activities to share their gifts.
The Marian Catholic High School motto, "Teaching Scholars with a Soul" best sums up our mission. The traditional black and white of the Dominican Order is highlighted with a touch of gold, the color of excellence.
The journey of the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Illinois to Chicago Heights began in 1873 when the Convent of St. Catherine of Siena in Siena Vale, Kentucky, sent six Sisters to Jacksonville, Illinois to teach the large population of Irish immigrant children whose fathers were working on the railroad. What the Sisters thought would be a temporary assignment, became permanent a year later when they received direction from their superior to establish a completely new congregation, separate from the Kentucky Dominicans.
A combination of prayer, hard work, and angel benefactors enabled the growing congregation to establish its motherhouse in Springfield in 1893. Like all Dominican men and women, the Dominican Sisters of Springfield are committed to a common life of prayer, study, and preaching. In 1955, when the Sisters were asked to partner with the Archdiocese of Chicago to establish a new high school in the south Chicago suburbs, they accepted the challenge. Just a few years later, in 1958, Marian High School welcomed its first students.
Today, Marian Catholic’s mission continues to reflect the Dominican values on which the school was founded. It is a legacy member of the Marian Catholic community share with pride. We invite you to explore the history of Marian Catholic through the decades to learn more about our unique story.
Marian Catholic High School is a Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory high school within the Dominican tradition of study, prayer, community, and preaching. Marian Catholic High School is a Springfield Dominican, college preparatory, coeducational high school community. As a Catholic school, Marian Catholic accepts its mission to "teach as Jesus did," to proclaim the message of Jesus Christ, and to create a community of service-oriented believers. As a Dominican school, Marian Catholic follows the model of St. Dominic who dedicated his life to the pursuit of Truth in its spiritual, intellectual, moral, and social dimensions. This search for Truth in the Holy Spirit leads to God through Jesus Christ, who is "the Way, the Truth, and the Life."
As a college preparatory high school, Marian Catholic develops in students essential skills for post-secondary education. These skills include inductive and deductive logic, critical thinking, research principles, and communication skills, both oral and written. In addition, Marian Catholic recognizes individual intellectual differences and has a flexible curriculum of liberal, fine, and practical arts which serves students' particular needs and opens them to a variety of career choices.
As a coeducational high school, Marian Catholic provides a Christian atmosphere in which students can develop relationships based on trust, respect, and appreciation of individual gifts. Marian Catholic recognizes and accepts the contradictions and conflicts inherent in the transition period of adolescence. Marian Catholic helps students to develop decision-making skills, to accept responsibility, to respect authority, and contribute to a just and dynamic society.
These Dominican, college preparatory, and coeducational dimensions create the special community of Marian students supported by Christian administrators, faculty, staff, and parents. Each member of this faith community is a sacred reality, created by a loving God. Relationships among members are based on Christian love, mutual respect, and trust. Together, the Marian Catholic community is called to grow in faith and to lead lives of service to God and others.
